Downward-Facing Dog—is almost deceptively simple. But as a morning posture, it does an extraordinary amount of work at once!
I think of it less as a “yoga pose” and more as a whole-body morning reset.
Why Downward Dog in the morning?
After hours of sleep, the body has been relatively still. Fascia is less hydrated and mobile, joints haven’t moved through much range, the posterior chain can feel shortened, and circulation is transitioning from rest into activity. Downward Dog asks the body to lengthen, load, breathe and orient all at once.
In Downward Dog we turn inward... and quirky ask...
What does my body actually feel like today?
You can pedal the feet. Bend one knee and then the other. Sway the hips. Soften the jaw. Let the head hang without collapsing into the shoulders.
***Notice where there is resistance without immediately trying to change it.
