Our final virtual support group of 2021 meets this Thursday, December 9th, at 1pm on the topic of Allopathic and Alternative Treatments for Lyme disease. Patients will be sharing their experieces with various treatments and protocols, followed by a Q&A session. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about the latest research in treatments for tick borne illness.

“Allen says the path of Alzheimer’s in the tissues of patients starts with two types of spiral-shaped bacteria, known as spirochetes, known as Borrelia burgdorferi (which also causes Lyme disease) and Treponema denticola. These dangerous bacteria enter the brain via nerve cells and brain circuits and create biofilms that are responsible for the tangles and the attack on brain cells that cause Alzheimer’s, Allen said.

“Alzheimer’s disease is a chronic infection,” said Allen. “Up until to this point in time, no one has been able to find these biofilms that cause disease hidden in live tissue.”

We know pain affects so many with Lyme & associated diseases, and this can have a significant impact on quality of life. At this group, patients can expect to learn new resources and tools for coping with pain, in addition to fostering a sense of community and shared support. Join us for our Wellness Wednesday Meditations every Wednesday from 12-12:30 on Zoom.

These sessions will consist of 15-20 minute meditation and mindfulness exercises (either guided or silent), followed by brief check-ins with participants.

This offering is for those dealing with either chronic Lyme disease or Long Covid symptoms. The purpose of each meeting is to help participants alleviate stress and and to elicit the relaxation response. Numerous studies have shown that when the relaxation response is activated in the body, pain is decreased and our immune system becomes stronger, helping us to recover from illness.

As always with our groups, although there is a topic to steer conversation, participants are free to discuss any questions or topics relevant to their experience with Lyme disease.

The HHS recently released "Health+ Lyme disease- a Human-Centered Design Report," which is based on hundreds of hours of research and interviews with patients, caregivers, physicians, and subject matter experts. Their purpose was to identify the most pressing challenges facing those in the Lyme community in the hopes of kickstarting innovative solutions.
