Your primary care doctor is great... but ADHD is a specialty.

A provider who focuses exclusively on ADHD brings a depth of experience your family doctor simply can't match. More accurate diagnosis. More personalized treatment. Better outcomes.

That's exactly what we do at Carolina Attention Specialists.

ADHD isn’t just something kids deal with.
Recent U.S. data show about 6 % of adults have been diagnosed with ADHD... that’s roughly 1 in 16 adults, and a lot of people may still be undiagnosed or diagnosed later in life.

ADHD can affect focus, organization, time management, and emotional regulation, and you’re not alone if you’re figuring this out later in life.

Early recognition and support can make a real difference.
We can help.

Time blindness is one of the least discussed and most disruptive parts of ADHD. Twenty minutes and two hours can feel roughly the same from the inside.

A visual timer... the kind where a colored wedge shrinks as time passes... converts an abstract concept into something the brain can actually perceive. It works far better than a phone countdown, because there's nothing to check and nothing to forget.

Start with 20-minute homework blocks and a real break in between. Shorter, visible, and finished beats long, vague, and abandoned.

Most ADHD conversations start with subjective reports... a teacher's impression, a parent's rating scale, a self-assessment. Useful, but all filtered through someone's perception.

QbTest adds objective data. It measures attention, impulsivity, and activity directly during a computerized task, then compares the results against a normed group of the same age and s*x. It's one more piece of evidence alongside the clinical interview and history... not a replacement for them.

For families, it often does something else too: it turns an abstract argument into something you can see on a page. That tends to shift the conversation from "is this real?" to "what do we do about it?"

A question we get constantly at the start of a school year: "If we do medication, do we still need all the systems?"

Yes... and that's the point.

Think of it this way. Behavioral strategies, routines, planners, and accommodations are the skills. For many people with ADHD, medication is what makes the brain available enough to actually use them. Neither one does the whole job alone. The checklist doesn't help if you can't sustain attention long enough to read it; the attention doesn't help if there's no system to point it at.

That's why treatment planning at CAS is individualized. What works for one child at 8 doesn't necessarily work for the same child at 14, and it may look nothing like what works for their sibling.

If the plan you built last spring isn't fitting this fall, that's not failure... it's information. Let's revisit it.

It happens more often than you'd think.

You're working through the intake questionnaire for your child... loses things, struggles to finish tasks, mind wanders during conversations, forgets appointments... and somewhere around question twelve it stops feeling like it's about them.

ADHD runs strongly in families. Many adults get their first real answer while advocating for their kid, having spent decades assuming they were just disorganized, or scattered, or not applying themselves.

If that's landing a little too close to home: it's not too late, and you're allowed to ask about yourself too. We evaluate and treat adults.

According to CDC data collected in 2024, an estimated 7 million U.S. children ages 3–17, about 11.7%, have a current ADHD diagnosis.

Put another way: in a class of 25, two or three students are likely navigating it. Some of them have a diagnosis and a plan. Others are still being described as careless, chatty, or not living up to their potential.

The difference between those two groups usually isn't effort. It's whether someone asked the right question.
