🔬 We are recognizing World Embryologist Day! On July 25, 1978, Louise Brown was born in Oldham, England, the world’s first baby conceived through IVF.

That single moment changed reproductive medicine forever and opened the door to parenthood for millions of families around the world.

This past weekend, we celebrated the people who make it possible every single day: embryologists. They work behind the scenes — in the lab, under the microscope, with precision and purpose — fertilizing eggs, culturing embryos, performing ICSI, and selecting the healthiest embryos to give our patients the best possible chance.

8 million+ babies have been born through IVF since 1978. Every single one of them started in a laboratory, in the hands of an embryologist.

Here at Reproductive Specialists of the Carolinas, our embryology team is the heartbeat of everything we do. To our team and to embryologists everywhere: thank you. We see you. We celebrate you. 👏🏾

Drop a 🔬 in the comments if you want to shout out an embryologist, or if IVF has touched your life or your family.

We’re wrapping up Men’s Health Month with a semen analysis. If you and your partner are trying to conceive, a semen analysis is one of the first tests we run to evaluate male fertility. So what does it actually check?

A semen analysis looks at:
👉🏾 Concentration: How many s***m are present
👉🏾 Motility: How well the s***m move
👉🏾 Morphology: The shape and structure of the s***m

All three play a big role in the ability to fertilize an egg. You might hear terms like:
👉🏾 Oligos***mia: Low s***m count
👉🏾 Asthenos***mia: Low motility (movement)
👉🏾 Teratos***mia: Abnormal morphology (shape)
👉🏾 Azoos***mia: No s***m present

Male factor infertility is more common than people think. It contributes to about 30-40% of infertility cases. Yet it’s often the last thing couples think to check. This Men’s Health Month, we’re encouraging partners to get evaluated together.

Fertility is a team effort, and a semen analysis is a simple, low-stress place to start.

Five years. Ten IUIs. Three miscarriages. One move to RSC. And now, one very loved boy named Soren. This Pride Month, we are honored to share the fertility journey of two incredible moms who never gave up. We are so glad they didn't.

"Parenthood didn't happen by accident for us—it happened through intention, planning, hope, and a lot of love.

As LGBTQ+ moms, building our family meant navigating fertility treatments, making difficult decisions, and trusting the process even when the path ahead felt uncertain. Every appointment, every waiting period, and every milestone led us here.

From the first consultation, Dr. Matrika Johnson, Allie, and the team were so supportive throughout our journey, holding our hands and cheering us along the way. We even cried when we graduated from the clinic. After 5 years (10 IUI attempts, 3 miscarriages, a move across states, and a fertility clinic switch), Soren is now here and approaching his 1st birthday! Being his moms has been our dream, and we couldn't have done it without Reproductive Specialists of the Carolinas, our friends, and our family. He is a beautiful and silly guy. We are just so thankful.

Today, watching him grow is a reminder that families are built in many different ways, but they're all built on the same thing: love.

To anyone still on their fertility journey: your story matters, your family is valid, and your path is worth celebrating. 💛" -Jessica and Shannon Jessica Curtis-Sullivan Shannon Sullivan

Soren's moms, we are so proud of you. Thank you for trusting us with your journey and for sharing it so beautifully with others. Happy almost first birthday, Soren!
