Healthy Drinks, Healthy Kids!

Choosing water again and again helps support kids' health now and as they grow.

Keep using tips from the Healthy Drinks Healthy Kids campaign to make water the easy, everyday drink at meals, snacks, and on the go. For trusted guidance on kids’ drinks, visit Healthy Eating Research (HER). To get involved in local efforts to promote water, connect with the Sugar Smart Coalition (SSC).

When it comes to kids’ drinks, keeping it simple helps.

Water should be the go-to drink throughout the day.
Plain milk can be a healthy option at meals.
100% juice can be served in small, age-appropriate amounts—whole fruit is even better.

Children should meet their daily fruit needs by eating whole fruits—instead of drinking juice. Whole fruits provide fiber and nutrition.

If serving 100% juice, keep portions small and age-appropriate:
Under 12 months: No juice
Ages 1-3: No more than ½ cup (4 oz) per day
Ages 4-5: No more than ¾ cup (6 oz) per day

WATER is the healthiest drink choice.

Not all juice is the same.

Check the label and choose 100% juice over juice drinks - but remember, WATER is the best drink for kids.

100% juice should be limited. If served, keep portions small and age-appropriate:
Under 12 months: No juice
Ages 1-3: No more than ½ cup (4 oz) per day
Ages 4-5: No more than ¾ cup (6 oz) per day

Tip: If serving 100% juice, try diluting it with water to reduce added sugar while keeping the flavor kids enjoy.

Plain milk is a great drink option for kids.

Choosing the right type of milk for your child’s age helps support healthy growth and development.

If they're not a fan, try serving it in a colorful glass, with fun-shaped ice cubes, or add a reusable straw or drink umbrella!
