Family isn't always defined by blood - sometimes it's defined by who shows up. ❤️

This powerful story celebrates the teachers, mentors, church members, family friends and community leaders who step into the role of parent, guide and supporter when children need them most.

From a teacher who became “Ma” to a father who chose adoption, to mentors who pour love, wisdom and stability into the next generation, these ""unofficial parents"" remind us that the Black community has long been built on the strength of the village.

Their names may not appear on birth certificates, but their impact lasts a lifetime.

Today, we honor the people who show up. Not because they have to, but because love calls them to. Their presence changes lives, strengthens families and helps shape the future of our communities. Read the full story here: https://issuu.com/watchdog-ent./docs/pride_magazine_-_2026_may_june_issue/22

The transformation of The Boardwalk at University Place is about more than a fresh look, it’s about building something meaningful.

Led by Red Hill Ventures, the once-struggling retail center is being reimagined into a vibrant lakefront destination with dining, shopping and year-round events. But the real focus? Relationships.

By partnering closely with local businesses, from favorites like Sol’Delish CLT to longtime staples, the vision is to create a connected, community-driven ecosystem where businesses support each other and thrive together.

With new investment, growing momentum and a shared vision, The Boardwalk is quickly becoming one of Charlotte’s most exciting places to gather, connect and experience something new.

If your eyes feel dry, tired or irritated, you’re not alone (and eye drops aren’t the only answer).

Our guest columnist, Dr. Paula Newsome of Advantage Vision Center, shares how modern, energy-based therapies are changing the way we treat dry eye.

From Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to Radiofrequency (RF) and Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT), these non-invasive treatments work with your body to restore natural function, not just mask symptoms.

Paired with healthy habits like sleep, hydration and stress management, this approach can lead to longer-lasting relief and better overall eye comfort.
