Asymmetrical Crawling is a tricky one ⬇️
As much as all PTs would love for crawling to be “normal” and symmetrical, we care more about addressing the underlying deficits.
Three things I always rule out: hip instability, visual deficits, spinal asymmetries. 👆🏻 I think we can all agree it’s worth catching these things early on rather than waiting.
Chances are it’s usually rooted in muscular asymmetries such as a tight hip flexor.
Torticollis: this is often times the culprit. If your baby has a head tilt or head turn preference, research and therapists support getting it treated early. This is not a “wait and see” thing. Find ya a good PT and treat the tight/weak muscles. 💯
Fun fact: we actually call crawling “creeping” in the PT world. Crawling actually refers to army crawling if we’re being fancy. 💁🏼♀️
