We care for patients of all ages, from babies still in the womb to young adults with congenital heart defects. We have clinics throughout Virginia and see patients within one week of referral. We’re the only hospital in Virginia that performs heart transplants in children. We offer ventricular assist devices (VADS) to children waiting a transplant. We treat:
- Congenital or acquired heart disease



- Chest pain

- Heart murmurs

- High blood pressure

- Heart rhythm disorders

- Heart failure

Sign your child up for a free running clinic to prepare for the annual Discovery Dash race in Charlottesville, VA. Kids learn to race and run!

Just 100 yards from the finish line, this young boy went into cardiac arrest. Thanks to UVA cardiologists, he's up and running and ready to race just a year later.

The Pediatric Heart Transplant Program at UVA began in 1991. Since its inception, 48 pediatric heart transplants were performed in patients age 17 and under. UVA is the only pediatric heart transplant center in Virginia. We are thankful to all the organ donors for giving the gift of a second chance at life to our patients.

April is National Donate Life Month, an annual reminder of the importance of organ donation. One brave 11-year-old - and recent heart transplant recipient - has quite a story to tell.
