Some pieces in an office are more than decor — they carry stories, memories, and meaning. ✨
This Bart Starr statue has been part of Dr. Smith’s offices since 2006, when Dr. Smith’s son, Kurt Smith — who played for the San Diego Chargers — came across it while visiting a sporting goods store that was going out of business. Knowing Bart Starr had always been one of Dr. Smith’s childhood heroes, Kurt immediately called him about the statue, and the rest is history.
A lifelong Alabama Crimson Tide and Green Bay fan, Dr. Smith admired Bart Starr not only as a legendary quarterback, but as someone who represented leadership, character, and excellence both on and off the field. Since then, “Bart” has become a familiar face in Dr. Smith’s offices, loved by patients, staff, and visitors alike. 🏈
Over the years, the statue has sparked countless conversations and memories — including the time Dr. Bruce decided Bart needed an Auburn jersey. Dr. Smith took that personally… and somehow, that jersey never seemed to appear again. 😉
Dr. Smith later had the opportunity to meet Bart Starr in person, making the story behind the statue even more meaningful.
Some traditions become part of a place, and Bart Starr has certainly become part of the RiverRun family.
