If your child has a food allergy, the first weeks of school are when the gaps show up.

Protect your child by having...

A written allergy action plan on file at the school. Not a conversation at drop-off that one person remembers. Written, signed, in the file.

Everyone on the list knows. Teacher, school nurse, cafeteria, bus driver, aftercare, the substitute.

Two epinephrine auto-injectors, not expired. One stays at school. If your child is old enough to carry one, they carry one and they know how to use it.

And the rule that matters most: we do not trade food. Not with anyone. Not once.

If you need the action plan filled out, need a refill on an auto-injector, or you are not certain what your child actually reacts to, call us. We will get the paperwork right and make sure you walk out knowing the plan.

The flu is more than just a bug. It is a serious, highly contagious respiratory virus that can keep kids home from school for days and even put them in the hospital.
The AAP recommends that all children aged 6 months and older receive the flu vaccine every year to protect them from severe illness and hospitalization. Talk to your pediatrician if you have any questions about the flu vaccine.

Summer schedules are fun, but late nights are a hard habit to break the week before school. Start now and the transition is so much easier. Move bedtime earlier by about 15 minutes every few nights, keep wake-up times steady, and power down screens at least an hour before bed.

A calm wind-down helps too: a warm bath, a couple of books, and low lights tell little bodies it's time to rest. Questions about your child's sleep, or need a back-to-school physical? We're here.

Meningitis is a serious infection that can become life-threatening and may leave lasting complications.

The good news is that there are vaccines, beginning at 2 months of age, that help protect children against several of the bacteria that can cause meningitis.

Meningitis can be spread through respiratory droplets, close contact with someone who is infected, and by sharing items such as cups, utensils, or toys that end up in a child's mouth. In some cases, it can also develop as a complication of another infection.

As pediatric providers, one of the most important things we can do is focus on prevention. Keeping your child's immunizations up to date is one of the best ways to help protect them from vaccine-preventable illnesses.

Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4. The AAP recommends using multiple layers of water safety protection, since no single method can prevent drowning. These layers work together and include pool fences, alarms, supervision, water safety skills, life jackets, and being ready to respond with CPR. Close, constant attentive and competent supervision is essential whenever kids are playing in and around water.
