Dr. Ferris is headed out on a medical mission trip this week with all the glasses you’ve recycled with us. Dr. Mathew and our team will be in all week to take care of you!

We’re headed to Barra de Navidad, México today to provide free eye care and glasses. Thanks to the many volunteers who help each month and those who donated their eyeglasses!

Fresh Frame Friday: say bonjour to MOREL! 🇫🇷

We're excited to welcome a new line to our optical. Morel is a French, family-owned eyewear company that has been designing frames since 1880. That's more than a century of craftsmanship, and you can see it in the details: classic shapes with a modern twist, beautiful colors, and frames made to be worn every day, not just admired.

Come see the collection in person. No appointment needed to browse, and our opticians are happy to help you find the one that feels like you.

We love being part of the causes that make Lewis County a great place to live, and this season we're showing up with something fun to bid on. đź’™

Rainier Eye has donated a certificate for a FREE FRAME or a pair of non-prescription sunglasses to four local fundraisers. Look for us at:

✨ Chehalis Foundation Gala — Nov 21
📚 Centralia High School Dollars for Scholars — Oct 24th

Every bid supports local programs, students, and scholarships, and the winner walks away with something great to wear. Happy bidding, and come say hi if you see us there!

Is it just us, or did everyone's eyes get drier the week the heat came on?

Once furnaces, wood stoves, and car heaters start running, the air gets drier, and a lot of people notice it in their eyes first: burning, grittiness, tired eyes by afternoon, or (weirdly) extra watering.

A few things that can help:
- A humidifier in the rooms where you spend the most time
- Car vents aimed away from your face
- Screen breaks, since we blink less when we're focused
- A warm compress mask, which helps loosen the natural oils your tears need to stay put

We keep heat masks at the front desk if you'd like to try one. And if dry eyes are bothering you more than a little, let's take a closer look. We have imaging that lets us see the oil glands in your eyelids, and there's often more we can do than eye drops alone.

Public employees, open enrollment is coming up, and we get a lot of calls this time of year asking, “Which vision plan should I pick?” 📋

If you’re a state, higher-ed, or school district employee choosing benefits through PEBB or SEBB and you’d like to see us for your eye care, here’s our simple answer: choose MetLife Vision.

We accept MetLife Vision, so you can use your benefits right here for comprehensive eye exams, glasses, and contact lenses, with the same team you already know. Open enrollment runs October 26- November 23.

Ever wonder what that quick flash of light during your eye exam is actually for? 📸

It's retinal imaging, a detailed photo of the back of your eye. It's quick and painless, and it shows us things a regular vision check can't. That can include early signs of diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other changes in eye health, often before you'd notice anything yourself.

It also gives us a baseline we can compare from year to year, so small changes don't slip by.
Retinal imaging is included in both our Senior and Individual Vision Membership Plans. Got questions? Ask us at your next visit.

October is Eye Injury Prevention Month, and around here, that lines up perfectly with fall chore season.

Splitting firewood. Blowing leaves. Cleaning gutters. Hacking back the blackberries before winter. A lot of eye injuries happen during everyday jobs around the house and yard, the kind nobody thinks twice about.

A few simple habits go a long way:
- Wear safety glasses (not just your regular glasses) when you're cutting, splitting, grinding, or using a blower
- Keep a pair where the tools live, so you actually grab them
- Watch for bystanders, since kids and pets love to "help"
- If something gets in your eye, don't rub it or try to dig it out

And if something does get in your eye and it stays red, painful, or blurry, call us. We build our schedule to help fit in urgent eye concerns whenever we can.

Dr. Ferris and Zaylii returned from a VOSH mission trip to Guatemala, and we wanted to share a little more about what that work actually looks like.

The goal isn't just handing out glasses for a week and leaving — it's helping build capacity in areas where eye care is scarce or nonexistent, sometimes with just one local provider already stretched to their max. While they're there, the team provides direct care with donated glasses and eye drops for patients who need it in the moment.

For anyone who needs ongoing or surgical care, they're connected to Visualiza, a partner eye care system with a local site, Enfoque Ixcan, and main location in Guatemala City. Dr. Ferris came home genuinely impressed — describing it as more modern and organized than many practices she's seen here in the U.S., offering full-scope care from pediatrics to cataract surgery, retinal care, low vision, and even same-day glasses, all for patients who otherwise couldn't access it.

It's a good reminder of why we do this work in the first place — and we're proud that giving back is part of who we are as a practice, not just something we do once a year.
