Some of us have been in survival mode for…ever?

Therapy can help move us from survival states to others - states that let us thrive and states that let us recover. It’s all necessary.

✨ Wisdom Wednesday ✨

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive.”
— Dr. Maya Angelou

There is a difference between getting through life and fully living it.

Thriving means choosing joy.
Choosing purpose.
Choosing softness where life has tried to make you hard.

Dr. Maya Angelou teaches us that survival is powerful, but flourishing is sacred.

This summer, ask yourself:
What would it look like to truly thrive?

Not just exist.
Not just endure.
But bloom.

What does thriving look like for you? 🌸✨

The brain fog and neurological changes have long been attributed to “mom brain.” But a growing body of research suggests that pregnancy isn't the only route into the parental brain. In fact, fathers and other primary caregivers can also show measurable changes in brain systems involving empathy, vigilance, and more. Here's how: https://on.natgeo.com/cBb79l

The nervous system leads all of our behaviors, and also mutes behaviors when necessary for perceived need for survival. This is true for our children and for ourselves.

Demanding a rational response from a child in the middle of a meltdown is like asking someone to “just swim” while they are actively drowning.

A flooded mind cannot process logic. It cannot answer your questions, it cannot describe its feelings, and it is physically unable to follow your directions or settle down. Expecting them to listen to a lecture at that moment isn't just unrealistic — it is a guarantee that the room is about to erupt.

The lesson cannot happen in the middle of the storm. If you try to force the correction before the safety is established, you are just adding fuel to the chaos. ❤️
