Healthy boundaries are an important part of protecting our mental health and building healthy relationships.

Setting boundaries can be difficult, especially when we have been taught that saying no is selfish, that we should always be available for others, or that putting our own needs first means we do not care.

But boundaries are not about shutting people out. They are about communicating what we need and creating healthier relationships. Be honest about what you can and cannot take on, give yourself permission to say no without guilt, and communicate your needs clearly and respectfully. Pay attention to when a relationship or situation is affecting your well-being.

Setting a boundary may feel uncomfortable, but we all deserve relationships where our needs, time, and well-being are respected.

For Black mothers, access to the right care can make all the difference. But should that access depend on what a family can afford? 🤎

The Mamas First Act is back before Congress, proposing expanded Medicaid coverage for doulas, midwives, Tribal midwives and lactation support providers throughout pregnancy, delivery and postpartum care — without cost-sharing for those covered services.

The legislation could be especially significant for Black families as Black women continue to face disproportionate risks of pregnancy-related death and serious complications. The bill also emphasizes culturally responsive maternal care that considers a patient’s values, beliefs, language and practices.

But there’s an important catch: the Mamas First Act has been introduced and reintroduced for seven years — and still hasn’t become law.

💬 Do you think Medicaid should cover doulas, midwives and lactation support? What changes do YOU think are needed to improve Black maternal health?

Drop your thoughts below. 👇🏾
