Full Moon Meditation: What We Hold Sacred and What We Hold Onto
October 2026 | Ta**us Full Moon

What in your life is genuinely worth preserving, and what are you holding onto simply because it is familiar?

This month's Full Moon in Ta**us brings our attention to the relationship between stability and transformation. With the Sun in Scorpio and a powerful alignment involving Pluto, the astrology invites us to examine our attachments, our sense of security, and the ways we resist necessary change.

Ta**us reminds us of the importance of building something lasting. Scorpio reminds us that growth sometimes requires us to release what has served its purpose.

The deeper spiritual work is learning to discern the difference.

During our Hermetic Full Moon Meditation, we will work with the energies of this lunar cycle through meditation and the ancient practices of the Hermetic tradition.

This is an opportunity to step away from the demands of everyday life, reconnect with your spiritual practice, and bring greater awareness to what you are cultivating and what you are ready to transform.

Join us for this month's Hermetic Full Moon Meditation.

What if your spiritual path could open you to something even greater?

Perhaps you began exploring spirituality because you sensed there was more to life than what you could see or explain. Something deeper that you wanted to understand, experience, and connect with.

So, you learned to meditate. You've explored healing, energy work, or other spiritual practices. You've had experiences that have changed how you see yourself and the world.

But perhaps you're still looking for something more.

You may wonder whether you need another practice, a deeper experience, or a different approach to finally access what you've been seeking.

But what if the more you've been looking for isn't another spiritual experience or method?

What if it involves discovering an entirely different relationship to spiritual development?

One in which you're not simply collecting practices or pursuing experiences, but entering a path that progressively develops your understanding, your capacities, and your ability to participate in something greater than yourself.

This is one of the profound differences between learning spiritual methods and entering a spiritual lineage.

I've written a new article exploring this difference and why it may change how you understand your own spiritual development.

Surrender is an important part of many spiritual traditions. We learn to loosen our attachment to personal control, to cultivate humility, and to become receptive to something greater than ourselves.

But there is a distinction we do not always examine.

Sometimes what we call surrender is actually a desire to be relieved of the burden of choosing.

It can feel reassuring to believe that a teacher, a spiritual teaching, or Divine guidance has already determined what we should do. Yet authentic surrender does not require us to abandon our capacity for discernment or our responsibility for the choices we make.

We can honor a spiritual tradition without giving away our conscience. We can receive guidance without making someone else responsible for our judgment. And we can surrender our need to control an outcome while remaining fully accountable for our participation in it.

Mature surrender is not an escape from agency. It is a different way of exercising it.

This is one of several distinctions I explore in my new article,

One of the more subtle challenges of spiritual growth is that we can become attached to the very person we are trying to become.

We want to be wiser, more loving, more intuitive, more disciplined. These are worthy aspirations. But somewhere along the way, we may become more invested in seeing ourselves as spiritually developed than in recognizing the places where we still have work to do.

We begin defending our understanding rather than questioning it. We become uncomfortable acknowledging our limitations. We may even interpret our experiences in ways that protect our spiritual identity rather than reveal something we need to see.

There is a profound paradox here: the person we are trying to become can become an obstacle to the person we actually need to encounter.
Our spiritual development may require a willingness to discover truths about ourselves that may not fit our preferred self-image.

I explore this, along with several other important distinctions between devotion and compulsion, in my new article:

What did the ancient Mystery Schools know that we have forgotten?

For thousands of years, sacred traditions across the world preserved extraordinary teachings about human potential, spiritual development, and the mysteries of existence.

From Egypt and Greece to Tibet, India, China, and beyond, these schools carried knowledge through generations. Some disappeared. Others survived, preserving teachings that continue to influence spiritual practice today.

But what did they teach? Why was their knowledge so carefully guarded? And what connects these ancient traditions to the spiritual lineages still alive today?

Join me in for Ancient Mystery Schools, a fascinating full-day journey through twelve great Mystery School traditions.

Through immersive teaching stories, we will explore their histories, mysteries, and the sacred wisdom they carried.

We often think of spiritual growth in terms of what we come to understand or experience. A profound meditation, an unexpected moment of connection, or a teaching that changes our perspective can be deeply meaningful.

But there is another dimension of spiritual development that receives less attention: the development of our spiritual capacity.

Consider the difference between experiencing a moment of profound peace and developing the ability to return to a more centered state when life becomes difficult. Or between recognizing that we are affected by the energy around us and learning practices for working intentionally with our own energy.

These are capacities we can cultivate.

One of the things I value about the work of the Modern Mystery School and the Lineage of King Salomon is that spiritual development is approached through a combination of knowledge, practical training, direct experience, and initiation.

Empower Thyself is the foundational training and initiation in this tradition. I am excited to be offering it this weekend!

During the two days, participants learn practices for clearing, strengthening, and protecting their energy, along with teachings that offer a deeper framework for understanding themselves and their spiritual development.

They also receive an initiation into the Lineage of King Salomon. Within the tradition, initiation is understood in part to increase the Light available to an individual supporting greater access to their spiritual potential.

After more than 25 years of spiritual inquiry and study, this combination of practical training and initiation profoundly changed my own spiritual path.
What I appreciate most is that the work continues beyond the classroom. The practices become part of daily life, and the initiation establishes a foundation for further development.

Our next Empower Thyself training is this weekend December 5th & 6th

We all need time to decompress, to spend time on what matters most, and to be with people who know that this kind of work matters. Zenathon is that opportunity: a day in a beautiful outdoor setting, engaging in talks, workshops, meditation, movement, and a marketplace of local practitioners and makers, gathered at Everwood Day Camp in Sharon, MA on Sunday, September 27th, 9am to 4pm.

Helรฉna Kate will be running two workshops on relationships, and Sacred Lights will have a booth.

Give yourself a day to sit with new teachers, try new modalities, rest, restore, and take a stand for inner and outer peace.

When people become interested in spiritual development, they often assume they need to become more perceptive.

They want to strengthen their intuition, become more sensitive to energy, receive clearer guidance, or develop a greater awareness of what exists beyond ordinary perception.

But what if you are already perceiving quite a lot?

Some people seem naturally attuned to subtle information. They walk into a room and immediately notice that something feels different. They sense tension between two people before anyone says anything. Their own state can change dramatically depending on who they are around. They have strong impressions about people or situations without always knowing where those impressions came from.

For some, this sensitivity is obvious. For others, it has been happening for so long that they donโ€™t even recognize it as unusual. They simply know that certain environments exhaust them, some people affect them strongly, or they sometimes know things without being able to explain how they know them.

The temptation is to call all of this intuition.

I think we need to be more careful than that.

Human beings are extraordinarily perceptive creatures. We are constantly registering facial expressions, tone of voice, body language, changes in behavior, environmental cues, memories, emotional associations, and patterns we may not consciously recognize. We can also project, become anxious, misread situations, and interpret what we perceive through the lens of what we hope or fear is true.

And from a spiritual perspective, there is another category of information to consider: energetic and intuitive perception.

The challenge is that all of these can feel compelling from the inside.

Feeling something strongly does not necessarily tell you where it came from or what it means.

That distinction is important because perception and interpretation are not the same capacity.

You may accurately perceive that something has shifted in a relationship and incorrectly decide what caused it. You may notice that your energy changes around a particular person without knowing whether you are responding to them, to something they evoke in you, or to your own expectations. You may have an intuitive impression that proves remarkably accurate, and another that turns out to have been fear.

This is why I donโ€™t think spiritual development is simply about becoming more open or learning to trust every feeling.

Sometimes the more important work is learning how to discern. READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE

There are more spiritual teachings available to us than perhaps ever before. And while that gives us incredible freedom to explore, it can also make finding your path surprisingly difficult.

How do you know what is actually right for you?

A spiritual path should do more than interest you intellectually or give you spiritual experiences. Over time, it should positively change the way you live. It should help you know yourself more deeply, develop greater discernment, strengthen your relationship with the sacred, and become more capable of living what you know.

In this video, Dave Lanyon, a Soveriegn Ipsissimus in the lineage of King Salomon talks about some of the things that are important to consider when choosing a spiritual path, and how to distinguish between something that is harmful, interesting to explore, or a path that can genuinely support your development.

If you are searching, questioning, or trying to understand what your next step might be, this is a good place to begin.

Itโ€™s relatively easy to feel centered when the conditions around us support being centered.

The harder test is what happens when life doesnโ€™t cooperate.

You slept badly. Someone says something that triggers you. A relationship feels uncertain. Work is overwhelming. You have an important decision to make and donโ€™t know what to do.

This is what I sometimes think of as the Tuesday afternoon test:

What does your spiritual practice offer you then? On the average day where maybe things are not quite going as planned.

One of the things I value about Empower Thyself is that you leave with things you can actually do in addition to learning and getting more attuned to deep esoteric wisdom.

You learn daily practices for clearing and strengthening your energy, tools for working with attention and focus, and a framework that helps you better understand what you are experiencing.

Over time, this can become very practical. You catch yourself before reacting, recognize when something has knocked you off center and know how to work with it, or recover more quickly from a difficult experience that might once have affected you for days. This has a profound effect on your life.

Empower Thyself isn't about becoming someone who is never overwhelmed, hurt, angry, or uncertain.

It gives you more ways to work with yourself when you are.

For me, that is one of the most important measures of spiritual development: not only what we understand or experience, but what our practice helps us become capable of in the lives we are actually living.

Our next Empower Thyself training is October 3rd.

If youโ€™ve been curious about the work, this is an opportunity to experience the foundational training and begin working with these tools for yourself.
