Adaptive equipment can play a critical role in maintaining independence with everyday occupations. 🖐️🥫

Today I’m highlighting the Dext Products RingPull can opener, a simple but effective adaptive aid that reduces pinch force demands, minimizes joint strain, and supports participation in kitchen-based IADLs for individuals with decreased grip strength, arthritis, tremors, Parkinson’s disease, and impaired fine motor coordination.

One of my patients, Joanie, was struggling to open cans independently due to decreased hand strength and dexterity challenges.

The Dext RingPull provided a simple solution that allowed her to safely and confidently return to a task she found frustrating, helping her maintain independence in the kitchen! 😊

As occupational therapists, we know that small environmental modifications and compensatory strategies can significantly improve occupational performance, safety, confidence, and quality of life.

Function over frustration. Independence through adaptation! ✨

When Kathleen first arrived at The Birches of Lehigh Valley, she was unable to walk and relied on a wheelchair to get around the memory care unit, including getting to meals.

Today, she is standing for all of her activities of daily living and using a rolling walker to navigate with therapy and staff support! 💪

Stories like Kathleen's are why we do what we do. Through hard work, consistency, and the support of our FOX Rehabilitation team at The Birches, she has regained strength, mobility, and greater independence.

Travel the World with FOX – Mount Kilimanjaro Challenge! 🦊⛰️

Residents at Commonwealth Senior Living at East Paris recently kicked off our June Travel the World with FOX adventure by taking on Mount Kilimanjaro through movement, wellness, and a little trail mix fuel along the way! 🏃‍♂️

This month’s challenge focuses on endurance, strength, and perseverance as residents work together toward a community goal of 90,000 steps! 👟 From engaging group exercise sessions to healthy snacks inspired by the journey, participants are proving that wellness can be both meaningful and fun.

At FOX, we believe every step matters. Programs like encourage movement, social connection, and lifelong wellness while creating experiences residents genuinely look forward to each month.

A special thank you to the team at Commonwealth East Paris for bringing such great energy and creativity to the program! 💪

Happy World Bicycle Day! 🚴‍♂️ We have a “wheelie” awesome success story to share!

Conway, 80 years young, was new to the Charleston, SC area. His goal was to find a safe way to explore his new community and maintain his independence. Thanks to a Lectric eBikes tricycle gifted by his niece, he’s doing just that!

With the help of his occupational therapist, Kelley Williams, OTR/L, BCG, Conway has been working on safely operating the bike, learning the controls, and navigating getting it in and out of his building. 💪

At FOX Rehabilitation, we’re passionate about helping older adults continue doing the activities that bring them joy and purpose. On World Bicycle Day, we’re celebrating Conway’s commitment to staying active, adventurous, and engaged in his community!
