Sarah is an integral part of the team at Chesapeake Regional Surgery Center – Virginia Beach, and she exemplifies dignity in every interaction. She comes to work each day with a smile, warmly greeting colleagues, patients, and families while making a genuine effort to connect with them. Her ability to remember personal details and follow up with thoughtful questions makes everyone feel seen, valued, and cared for.

What sets Sarah apart is her intentional listening and compassion. No matter how busy the day becomes, she always makes time to listen, support, and encourage those around her. Whether it's checking in on a coworker during a difficult time, making an extra post-operative call to ensure a patient feels prepared and supported, or remembering a patient from a previous visit and helping them feel at ease, Sarah consistently goes above and beyond.

As a preceptor, mentor, charge nurse, and teammate, Sarah is a role model for others. She patiently guides new nurses, celebrates their successes, and serves as a trusted resource for staff across the unit. Her kindness, empathy, and encouragement help create a supportive environment where both patients and colleagues can thrive. Thank you to everyone who helped make our Skin Cancer Screening Event a success!

We are grateful to our volunteers, vendors, the Gourmet Gang, who donated food, and the outstanding dermatologists who donated their time and expertise to serve our community.

Special thanks to Dr. Kelly DeHart of Pariser Dermatology and Dr. Stephan Duran of Forefront Dermatology for providing free skin cancer screenings and helping raise awareness about the importance of early detection.

During the event, 43 patients received screenings, and 11received referrals for further evaluation. These screenings have the potential to make a life-changing difference.

Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this important community health initiative. Together, we are helping to keep our community healthy.

Congratulations to Patricia "Nichole" Creekmore, our Values in Action Award winner for Integrity!

For 27 years, Nichole has been a dedicated member of the Chesapeake Regional family, serving patients and teammates alike. Whether in the Surgical Assessment Unit at the hospital or the pre-op area at Chesapeake Regional Surgery Center - Virginia Beach, she consistently demonstrates what it means to lead with integrity.

Known for her calming voice, kind spirit, and compassionate care, her peers say Nichole is also one of the most organized and detail-oriented nurses you'll ever meet. She approaches every patient interaction with meticulous preparation, thoughtful planning, and individualized care. Her commitment to following policies, procedures, and best practices not only ensures exceptional patient outcomes but also sets a standard for those around her.

Nichole is a trusted mentor and role model to new team members. Her willingness to teach, support, and encourage others has left a lasting impact on colleagues who look to her for guidance and inspiration.

Beyond her clinical excellence, Nichole embodies the focused standards of behavior every day. She is friendly, sincere, engaged, and always attentive to the needs of patients, families, and coworkers. Her teammates know they can count on her for support and encouragement.

Last weekend, we partnered with the Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation and staff volunteers to host a diaper distribution for local families with infants and toddlers.

Thanks to the generosity and support of the Foundation, we gave out 513 boxes of diapers to help ease the financial burden many families face. Access to basic necessities like diapers plays an important role in keeping children healthy, comfortable, and thriving.

We are grateful to everyone who was involved. Together, we are strengthening families and supporting our youngest community members.

Chesapeake Regional Healthcare has been proud to support the fight against cancer by being the presenting sponsor of Relay For Life of South Hampton Roads for many years!

Our local Relay event was held this past weekend and is recognized among the top fundraising events in the nation.

Thank you to our staff, their families, and other community members who continue to make a difference by advancing the mission of the American Cancer Society to support patients, fund research, and bring hope to those affected by cancer!

Tanya serves both the Chesapeake Regional Surgery Center at Virginia Beach and the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center Emergency Department, where her commitment to safety makes a lasting impact on patients, families, and fellow team members every day.

Whether identifying and reporting safety concerns, collaborating with Facilities to resolve issues, or staying ahead of new medications and procedures through independent research, Tanya consistently goes above and beyond to ensure the highest standards of care. Her enthusiasm for learning is contagious, and she generously shares her knowledge with colleagues, helping strengthen patient outcomes and promote a culture of safety across our organization.

Recently, Tanya conducted extensive research on a complex procedure being performed at the surgery center and shared her findings during a unit huddle. Thanks to her dedication, the care team was well prepared to educate the patient and family, ensuring a smooth and confident transition home.

Tanya is also a champion of best practices, regularly consulting policies, encouraging others to do the same, and helping update or develop procedures to keep them current and effective.

✔️ Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day.

✔️ Wear protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses, and seek shade when UV exposure is strongest.

✔️ Perform regular skin self-checks and schedule routine skin exams with a dermatologist.
