While we may not offer three meals a day at the independent living level, one thing is certain—we love to eat! That’s why many of our favorite activities just happen to involve food.

Like Joan’s Cafe, a weekly breakfast gathering filled with delicious treats, hot coffee, great conversation, and plenty of laughter. As a weekly event hosted by our wonderful Community Relations Director, Joan, it’s more than just the most important meal of the day; it’s an opportunity for residents to connect with friends, meet new neighbors, and start their day with a smile.

At The Reserve at Greenbrier, we know that sharing food is one of the best ways to build community, and Joan’s Café has become a resident favorite for exactly that reason!

Last week we promised we’d share the finished results of our tie-dye creations, and we always keep our promises!

Our residents put their creativity on full display, transforming plain shirts into colorful works of art. Activities like tie-dye aren’t just fun—they help stimulate the brain, encourage self-expression, improve fine motor skills, and provide opportunities for social connection. Creativity has no age limit, and neither does the joy that comes from making something uniquely your own.

Tie dye took us back to the colorful creativity of the 1970s today as our residents spent the afternoon designing one-of-a-kind shirts full of personality and fun!

Activities like this do more than spark nostalgia and honor the memories of years gone by — creativity also helps keep the aging brain active, engaged, and thriving. From choosing colors to creating patterns, every swirl was a chance to express joy and individuality.

We were honored to take part in a special Sincerely Sinceri event this afternoon to make a difference in our community as our residents gathered together for Letters for Heroes — writing heartfelt letters of appreciation and encouragement for our nation’s service members through AMillionThanks.Org.

Founded in 2004, A Million Thanks has delivered more than 21 million handwritten letters to active-duty military members and veterans around the world, reminding them that their service and sacrifice are seen, valued, and appreciated.

There was something truly meaningful about watching our residents share words of gratitude, encouragement, and kindness — proving once again that a few sincere words can make a lasting impact. We are so proud of our community for coming together to support such an incredible mission.

Thank you to A Million Thanks for the amazing work you do for our heroes every single day.
