This isn’t a fidget toy. It’s speech therapy 🫟

When a child squeezes something while practicing a tricky sound like /r/, that tactile input travels alongside the motor command for the tongue. The brain uses that extra sensory feedback to help plan where the tongue needs to go and how much muscle effort it takes to get there.

Speech isn’t just “say the sound right.” It’s a motor skill — and motor skills get stronger with the right sensory scaffolding. 💪

So next time you see squeezing, tapping, or pressing paired with speech practice, know it’s doing real work behind the scenes!👏
