Ticks aren't just linked to Lyme disease.
The lone star tick, which is becoming more common in Connecticut, has been associated with alpha-gal syndrome (AGS), an allergy that can develop after a tick bite. People with AGS may experience allergic reactions after eating red meat or other mammal-derived products.
Symptoms can include:
🤢 Upset stomach
🩹 Hives
😮 Difficulty breathing or severe allergic reactions

The best protection? Prevent tick bites before they happen.
Use EPA-registered insect repellent, wear protective clothing outdoors, and perform routine tick checks.

Alpha-gal syndrome can occur after certain types of tick bites and mostly affects adults.

💉 August is National Immunization Awareness Month!

Vaccines help protect people of all ages—from infants and children to adults and older adults. Staying up to date on recommended immunizations is one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect yourself, your loved ones, and our community.

Talk with your healthcare provider about which vaccines are recommended for you and your family.

A safe day at the pool means using multiple layers of protection:
👀 Constant, active supervision
🦺 Properly fitted life jackets
🚧 Four-sided barriers with self-latching gates
❤️ Knowing CPR in case of an emergency

No single layer is enough, but together, they can help prevent drowning and save lives.

🥕🍅 Enjoy the best of summer! 🌽🫐

Fresh, seasonal produce is a delicious way to support a healthy lifestyle. Before eating or preparing fruits and vegetables, wash them thoroughly under running water to help remove dirt and germs.

Looking for an extra cleaning step? A ½ cup distilled white vinegar to 1 cup water soak, followed by a clean water rinse, may help reduce bacteria, though it can slightly affect taste or texture.

Enjoy seasonal favorites like tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet corn, summer squash, blueberries, peaches, and watermelon! 🍉

Keep your kitchen safe by preventing cross-contamination!

Did you know that using separate cutting boards is one of the easiest ways to reduce the risk of foodborne illness?

🟢 Use one cutting board for fruits and vegetables.
🔴 Use a separate cutting board for raw meat, poultry, and seafood.

This simple habit helps keep harmful bacteria from spreading to ready-to-eat foods and protects you and your family.

Small steps make a big difference when it comes to food safety! 🍽
