CT health centers provide primary medical, dental, and behavioral health to over 264,000 Medicaid (HUSKY) enrollees each year. The changes coming because of HR 1 will cause confusion and many of our patients may lose coverage. Health center staff will be ready to assist - and we remain committed to serving all people - regardless of ability to pay.

CHC/ACT’s Deb Polun sums it up: “We were all very excited when the legislature passed this three years ago…And then it just didn’t happen.”

Thanks to Connecticut Mirror for highlighting the work of CHC/ACT and others to achieve Medicaid reimbursement for Community Health Worker Services. These services will increase in importance with the confusing changes to Medicaid & SNAP due to HR 1.

Let’s get it done!

A 2023 law requiring CT's Medicaid program to pay for services provided by community health workers has yet to be implemented.

Today CHC/ACT, Fair Haven Community Health Care, and Cornell Scott - Hill Health Center participated in a kick-off ceremony to announce our partnership with the construction industry. Our goal is to connect construction workers across CT with mental health & substance use services - towards better overall health for the people who build our communities.

Special thanks to Gilbane Construction Co., Turner Construction Co., and Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board for bringing this to life!

Today Senator Richard Blumenthal visited StayWell Health Center to celebrate the Congressional funding of StayWell’s new electronic health records system. The new system will improve care coordination and enhance patient outcomes!

The ATI will include a learning track on Healthcare for the Homeless (HCH), focused on improving care delivery, advancing health, and supporting individuals experiencing homelessness through innovative, integrated approaches.

🥬🥕🥦Thanks to Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for announcing new funding opportunities for community health centers, which will expand access to nutritional services and healthy food!

CT's health centers are committed to helping our communities gain access to fresh, nutritious foods. For example -
- Wheeler Health has a Farm to Family program;
- Fair Haven Community Health Care has a Food as Medicine program;
- Southwest Community Health Center, Inc. runs a Food4Moms program in collaboration with Wholesome Wave for pregnant & post-partum moms.

This new funding could support and expand these and other programs, so more people can get the benefits that healthy food offers!

We had 35 engaged leaders in the room, representing 6 CT health centers and health centers from RI, VT, NH, and SC.

So many great conversations around using financial data to drive strategy, communicate more effectively with non-financial leaders, and elevate the role of finance across health centers. Grateful to the attendees for sharing their perspectives and real-world experience.
