Helen Keyes, a cognitive psychologist, insists that being a part of a sports fandom and attending live sporting events can “increase a greater sense that your life is worthwhile”, reportedly even more so than job security. Being a part of a fandom alone increases one’s resilience, self-esteem, and social connectivity. Additionally, an organized game schedule exhibits structure in a fan’s life, where structure is comforting. Whether in person or from a TV screen, being a sports fan increases well-being.
