Being able to balance on one foot is an overlooked but extremely important skill as we age! Good balance can prevent a serious, debilitating fall that impairs a person’s independence.
The CDC recommends doing balancing exercises at least 3 times a week. This can include:
– Standing on one foot (start at a few seconds at a time and work your way up)
– Walking backward (make sure you have a clear path)
– Using a wobble board (once you’re confident you’ve got good balance!)

Stretching doesn’t just feel good, it’s also great for flexibility, may reduce pain, and can decrease your risk of injuries.
Seniors can add stretching into their weekly routine in just a few minutes at a time. Choose stretches that make sense for how you use your body.
For example:
– Readers should stretch their necks
– Computer users should stretch their forearms
– People who sit for long periods can try a seated spinal twist to relieve lower back tension
