Can a simple text message help support lasting behavior change?

As healthcare teams continue exploring ways to support patients beyond the clinic, mobile health (mHealth) tools have become an increasingly important part of the conversation.

A new systematic review and meta-analysis published in the 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘺𝘭𝘦 𝘔𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘦 examines the impact of text message-based mHealth interventions on physical activity and weight-related outcomes in adults.

The study explores how simple, scalable communication tools may help support behavior change, while also highlighting factors that can influence effectiveness, including intervention design, tailoring, and the use of behavioral science principles.

For clinicians, health coaches, and healthcare organizations, understanding how digital tools can complement lifestyle medicine is becoming increasingly important as we look for practical ways to support patients between visits.

Because improving health outcomes isn't always about adding more complexity. Sometimes it's about delivering the right support at the right time.

Obesity is not a failure of willpower—it’s a complex disease shaped by biology.

We often don’t tell people with high blood pressure or high cholesterol to simply “try harder.” Yet people living with obesity are frequently judged and shamed for a condition they can’t simply will away.

Understanding obesity through a biological lens can help shift the conversation from blame to compassion—and open the door to evidence-based tools and meaningful support.

Living longer isn't the same as living well.

A new global study highlights a growing challenge: people are gaining years of life, but not always years of good health.

That reality shifts the conversation from lifespan to healthspan.

How do we help people stay strong, active, independent, and engaged as they age?

According to ACLM CEO Dr. John Findley, the answer starts long before old age—with the daily habits that shape long-term health.

Because healthy aging isn't just about avoiding disease. It's about preserving the ability to fully participate in life.

Supporting brain health through lifestyle medicine—and shared medical appointments

This poster presentation from LM2025 highlights a promising group-based approach to integrating lifestyle medicine into neurology care for adults with mild cognitive impairment or early dementia. Through an eight-session shared medical appointment (SMA) series, participants explored the six pillars of lifestyle medicine while building motivation and connection through peer discussion.

The results? 96% session attendance and an average satisfaction score of 4.8/5. Participants highlighted increased motivation for lifestyle changes, meaningful peer support, and appreciation for the interdisciplinary curriculum. Clinicians and administrators also found the model offered streamlined workflows, efficient documentation, and billing feasibility.

This pilot demonstrates how SMAs can provide a feasible, scalable model for bringing lifestyle medicine into cognitive care—and creating new opportunities to support brain health through whole-person care.
