Nonprofits 4 CHWs CHW Strength Foundation's mission is to strengthen the CHW workforce

CHW Strength Foundation's mission is to strengthen Community Health Workers by providing training and support so that CHWs can build our careers as trusted community leaders who enhance the health of our communities.

CHWs bring tremendous value to their communities. It’s time we talk about what that value is worth! 💚

Today, our Executive Director, Marco Thomas, is in Arlington, Texas, presenting at the 8th Annual Regional CHW Conference!

His session, Owning Our Labor, is opening an important conversation about financial health, business readiness, and economic empowerment for Community Health Workers.

Because the skills, relationships, lived experiences, and contributions CHWs bring to their work have value, even when that value isn’t always recognized or compensated.

At Nonprofits 4 CHWs, we’re committed to cultivating opportunities that help CHWs recognize their strengths, advocate for their contributions, and build pathways toward greater economic opportunity.

The value was already there. Now it’s time to make sure it’s seen.

Your frontline team may know something your program plan doesn't.

Community Health Workers often know the relationships that matter.

They know who people trust.
They know the informal networks.
They know the history behind what you're seeing.
They know which resources exist beyond the ones on your list.

The question isn't only whether we value that knowledge.

It's whether our organizations have created ways for that knowledge to actually shape the work.

Where does frontline knowledge show up in your organization's decision-making?

What happens when we change where we begin?

That's part of the conversation behind Power Shift: Asset-Based Community Development Training.

ABCD invites us to look more closely at communities, relationships, assets, participation and power.

Not only:

What is needed?

But:

What is already here?
Who already holds knowledge?
Who is already connected?
Whose expertise shapes the work?
Who participates, and who actually has influence?

These aren't only questions for Community Health Workers.

They're questions for supervisors, program managers, nonprofit leaders and organizations making decisions about how community-based work happens.

Through Power Shift, N4CHWs is creating space to explore those questions more deeply.

We'll be sharing more about the training and how to participate soon.

Before we ask, "What does this community need?"

There's another question worth asking:

What's already here?

Who is already trusted?

What relationships are already working?

What knowledge already exists?

What gifts, skills and resources are already present?

Sometimes our starting point determines what we're able to see.

For organizations working alongside Community Health Workers and the communities they serve, that starting point matters.

What changes when we begin with what's present instead of only what's missing?

Community Health Workers do powerful work.

But the strength of CHW work isn't only about the individual doing it.

The organizations around CHWs matter, too.

Leadership matters.
Relationships matter.
Training matters.
Boards matter.
The systems we build around community-based work matter.

At Nonprofits 4 CHWs, we're interested in that bigger picture.

How do we strengthen the organizations supporting CHWs while recognizing the knowledge, relationships, and leadership already present in the communities they serve?

That's a conversation we're going to keep having here.

Supporting CHWs also means strengthening what surrounds them.

We’re going Beyond the Barriers.

The 2027 CHW Learning Summit is coming, and we’re creating space for the people doing the work to learn, connect, share what’s working, and imagine what’s possible together.

From expanding access and strengthening community relationships to developing CHW leaders and exploring community-rooted solutions, this Summit is about moving conversations into practical impact. Learning Summit Presenter Call for Abstracts.pdf

Your contribution carries meaning. đź’š

Purpose shows up in how you choose to use what you already carry. Your voice. Your experience. Your relationships. Your ability to see what your community needs and respond.

Every conversation, connection, resource shared, and voice lifted can become part of something greater.

Today, we celebrate the purpose within your journey and the impact you continue to create.

My purpose moves me forward.

Sometimes opportunity begins with simply seeing differently. đź‘€

CHWs see a lot.

You see strengths that can be overlooked. You hear ideas that may never make it into the meeting room. You understand relationships, experiences, and realities that can help communities and systems imagine another way forward.

That’s why today’s iHOPE focus, O = OPPORTUNITY, matters.

The question isn’t only, “What’s possible?”
It’s also, “What do you already see that others need to see too?”

Bring your perspective. Bring your experience. Bring others into the conversation.

There may be more possibility there than we realize.

Today, we’re celebrating the HEART of Community Health Workers. 💚

Because this work has always been about more than what gets done. It’s about the relationships built, the trust cultivated, and the way you continue to show up alongside your communities.

Those connections matter. They are part of the work.

As we continue through iHOPE with CHW Strength, take a moment today to think about the people, relationships, and experiences that fill your heart.

H = HEART
My heart fuels my HOPE.

It’s National Community Health Worker Awareness Week! 💙

We’re kicking off the week alongside CHW Strength with iHOPE, beginning with i = iDENTITY.

Before we celebrate what you do, we celebrate who you are.

You bring your story, lived experience, relationships, knowledge, and strengths into this work. Your value didn’t begin when you became a CHW. You brought value with you.

That’s where we begin. Recognizing what is already there and creating the conditions for it to flourish.

đź’š iHOPE begins with me.
