As National Health Center Week comes to a close, we have been proud to highlight some of our dedicated student interns and partnerships with Logan University.

Today, we want to recognize Dr. Jevinne Khan, Logan's Integrated Health Center lead clinician, and Dr. Aubrianna Jones, adjunct clinician at the BRIC and Affinia Healthcare locations, whose hard work does not go unnoticed. Thank you both for your consistent commitment to the Health Centers, the community and patient-care.

"Strong mentorship has improved my experience even further. Having a mentor who actively invests in student growth fundamentally shaped my confidence as a future practitioner," student intern Jadyn Christensen said.

Another partnership Logan University Health Center is proud to higlight during National Health Center Week is with the Bullet Related Injury Clinic (BRIC).

The BRIC is a St. Louis clinic that specializes in care and rehabilitation for individuals affected by firearm-related injuries. The team consists of trauma surgeons, NPs/PAs, social workers, counselors, occupational therapists, behavioral health, wound care, auricular acupuncture, and physical function services, as well as Logan clinicians and interns.

"My time at the BRIC was one of the best clinical experiences I have had over my time at Logan," student intern Garrett Bischof said. "It really put into perspective the toolset a clinician needs to be successful in practice, and how to build trust between doctor and patient."

Together, these Health Center partnerships highlight our role as members of a broader, integrated healthcare team and our comittment to serving alongside community partners. Thank you to our patients at the BRIC for trusting us to be apart of your journey.

For Logan University chiropractic students, clinical education goes beyond the campus. At Affinia Healthcare, the interns work alongside a team of healthcare specialists across various specialties to gain firsthand experience delivering compassionate, evidence-informed care.

Through experiences like these, our future healthcare leaders are learning the importance of listening, building trust and meeting each patient where they are.

"One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is how important patient communication really is. In the classroom, we learn the science behind conditions and treatments, but in clinic you learn how to explain those concepts in a way that is meaningful and easy for patients to understand," student intern Jessica Andrew said. "I’ve learned that every patient has a unique story, and those conversations often influence clinical decisions just as much as the physical examination."

We're grateful to Affinia Healthcare, its dedicated staff and every patient who helps shape the next generation of chiropractors through hands-on learning and collaborative, patient-centered care with our health center team. 💙

Congratulations to our July Clinician of the Month, Dr. Shelby Hummel! 👏

Dr. Hummel is a 2021 graduate of both Logan University’s Doctor of Chiropractic and Master of Science in Sports Science & Rehabilitation programs. She returned to Logan in 2024 as an adjunct clinician at Montgomery Health Center.
After being inspired by her own chiropractor and Logan alumna, Lauren Hendrix, DC (’10), MS (’13), Dr. Hummel pursued her passion for her own career in chiropractic. Now co-workers with her old mentor, Dr. Hummel enjoys the opportunity to help Logan students learn and grow.

"It's a pleasure to help students finetune their skills as they enter their final year in school," said Dr. Hummel. "Watching them grow and put the skills together that they have worked so hard to develop during their clinical experiences is very rewarding."
