✨ Thai Bodywork Q&A #3: What should I wear to a Thai Bodywork session? ✨
The best thing to wear is comfortable, loose-fitting clothing, preferably cotton or something you can move easily in. Think yoga pants, joggers, sweatpants, a t-shirt, or a comfortable long sleeve depending on the weather. One thing I don't recommend is slick athletic wear (like leggings or shirts with that slippery material). Since there's a lot of assisted stretching and movement, cotton or fabrics with a little more grip make it easier for both of us to move comfortably. I also recommend dressing in layers, especially during the colder months. That way you can easily adjust if you get warm or cool throughout the session.
And don't worry if you forget! 😊 I always keep Thai pants and extra shirts at the studio, so you're never out of luck.
Another question I hear all the time is...
"Why do I stay clothed instead of un******ng like I would for a regular massage?"
The simple answer is that's how I was trained in Traditional Thai Bodywork, and it's the way I continue to practice today. Thai Bodywork involves a lot of movement, assisted stretching, compression, and different body mechanics that simply work better when you're clothed. Traditional Thai Bodywork has been practiced this way for centuries, allowing the practitioner to move the body through different positions while maintaining comfort and stability.
Personally, I also prefer having clothing as a comfortable barrier because of some of the techniques I use. It allows me to work effectively while helping clients feel relaxed and at ease throughout the session. Occasionally, I may use a liniment, balm, or a small amount of oil if it's appropriate for what we're working on—especially if we're incorporating cupping therapy—but the majority of the session is completely clothed.
My goal is always for you to feel comfortable, supported, and able to focus on how your body feels instead of worrying about what to wear.
