💯💯💯
You have been fine for years. That is exactly why so many nail techs struggle to believe allergic reactions can happen to them.
Your immune system and the amount of repeated exposure determine whether that reaction happens in one day, one week, one year, 20 years, 30 years, or even 40 years from now if you are not protecting yourself.
Protecting yourself means:
• wearing gloves
• changing gloves when they become soiled with uncured gel
•musing a matched tested lamp
• keeping layers thin enough to properly cure
• avoiding skin contact
• leaving a margin around the nail and skin
• not mixing brands
• not creating your own gel colors by mixing products together
• understanding that marketing claims like “touchable gel” and “universal lamps” are not true.
You can wipe away the surface of uncured product. You cannot wipe away what has already bonded with the proteins in your skin.
Repeated exposure does not always create an immediate reaction. Sometimes the body tolerates repeated contact until one day it does not. Being “fine so far” is not the same thing as being protected long term.
Many of us were taught these habits were normal. Many were never taught what repeated exposure to uncured nail product can lead to over time.
Nobody thinks it will happen to them until it does. I know I did!
The Healthy Nails Collaborative Nail Tech Accreditation takes you through Doug Schoon’s new textbook page by page so you can have the knowledge you need for you, your clients and even become a nail educator yourself!
