Box breathing is one of the simplest tools in sport psychology, and it works because it's simple: four counts in, four counts hold, four counts out, four counts hold. It slows the heart rate and signals to the brain that this is a moment to perform in, not a threat to survive. Athletes use it in the huddle, at the free-throw line, anywhere nerves show up before it's time to perform. Try it with your athlete before their next big moment.
