Dressing baby for comfort is simpler than it feels 🧸
Babies can’t regulate their temperature the way we can, and overheating is more common (and riskier) than being a little cool.
The easy rule:
Dress them in one more layer than what you’re comfortably wearing.
Then check the chest or back of the neck — it should feel warm, never hot or sweaty.
A few gentle reminders:
• Lightweight, breathable fabrics only
• Skip thick blankets or hats once you’re home
• Thin layers in the car seat so the harness fits snug
• Remove extras the moment you’re inside
Watch for the signs:
Sweaty neck or flushed skin → too warm
Cool chest or mottled skin → add one layer
No fancy gadgets needed.
Your hands and eyes are the best temperature check.
Save this for the next “is my baby too hot?” moment.
Your thoughtful care keeps them safe and cozy.

🍼 Is This Normal? Common Baby Self-Soothing Behaviors 😌
Nurse-led reassurance for those 2 a.m. Google spirals: Head banging, pinching, rocking, and more are usually completely typical ways babies regulate their nervous systems.
Rhythmic head banging or rocking (often 6–24 months) helps when tired or overstimulated. Pinching or grabbing while drifting off is sensory exploration — your arm is simply the closest toy. Other classics include mouth bubbles (hello teething drool), grunting/snorting in sleep, and brief cries without fully waking.
Most of these are harmless and fade as their nervous system matures. Check with your pediatrician if it’s sudden, extreme, involves injury risk, or comes with other changes.
You’re not imagining it — and you’re not alone. Save this for the next “wait… is this okay?” moment. 💙

Baby Eczema & Dry Skin: Nurse-led gentle care 🧸
Many babies get dry, patchy skin early on. It often looks worse than it feels.
Common signs
• Dry/rough patches (cheeks, arms, legs)
• Mild flaking or itch
• Worse after hot baths or dry air
Gentle care
• Short lukewarm baths
• Fragrance-free cleanser only if needed
• Pat dry, never rub
• Thick plain moisturizer on damp skin
See the pediatrician if
• Very red, cracked, or weepy
• Signs of infection
• Baby seems really uncomfortable
Less is more. Simple routines work best.
Save for those dry days. You’re doing great. 💙✨

🌙 Cluster Feeding & the Evening Fussies: What’s Happening + How to Stay Calm
Those marathon late-afternoon and evening feeds (and the fussies that come with them) are so common in the early months.
Tiny tummies empty fast, growth spurts hit (especially ~2-3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months), and babies often cluster feed to build supply and settle their nervous system before longer night stretches.
It can look like: feed, done, root again 20-60 minutes later… repeat for hours. Hello, witching hour.
Gentle support tips:
• Accept the cluster instead of fighting it
• Dim lights, lower stimulation
• Skin-to-skin, babywearing, slow rocking
• Stay fed + hydrated yourself (this is temporary!)
This is usually not low supply — it’s biology doing its job. Most babies move through it just fine.
You’re not failing. You’re meeting a real developmental need.
Save this for the next long evening 🫶

Hunger Cues vs. Other Cues: A gentle nurse-led guide 🧸💙
Babies talk long before they cry.
Learning the difference helps both of you feel calmer.
Early hunger cues
• Rooting
• Sucking on hands
• Lip smacking
• Turning toward breast or bottle
Other common cues
• Looking away or arching → needs a break
• Yawning, eye-rubbing → tired
• Squirming or grunting → gas or needs to p**p
• Fussy but not rooting → comfort or position change
Crying is a late signal.
Responding earlier usually means less crying overall.
You’re learning your baby’s language.
Every quiet moment of watching is practice — and it’s beautiful work.
Save this for those early days.
