Sparked with a child's interest,

There IS a difference between....⭐️ Following a child's lead.... and leading a child who needs help getting started. ⭐️...

There IS a difference between....

⭐️ Following a child's lead.... and leading a child who needs help getting started.

⭐️ Sitting to play when a child can....and containing a child who needs to move to learn.

⭐️ Saying "no" when a child throws a toy... and saying "no thank you, but let's throw this (like a ball) instead.

⭐️ Sharing eye contact with a child during periods of joy and connection...and requesting it as a required skill when they may not feel comfortable to do it.

⭐️ and my favorite.....teaching a child by labeling, narrating, and expounding... and testing with questions and expectations.

There is a difference, just like each child's needs are different.

Chewing, swallowing,
drinking.

It's something our brain just "does". We don't think about it, our brain "talks" to our muscles, and they just do it. Seems so simple, right?

Not for her. Every movement, every individual step... it requires conscious practice of the motor skill. How to move her mouth, how to move food, how to hold the cup.

So we take it one single step at a time. We describe the specific "motor plan" to help her "brain" and "mouth" connect.
