What does this mean?

Eating isn't just "eating".

It's strength, posture, balance, sitting, attention, understanding language and mealtime routines, processing food tastes/textures/smells, sharing feelings about foods when they don't feel right.

And on top of that, the actual, true skill of chewing, swallowing, and all the emotions when you can't express if food makes you feel like you can choke.

Being afraid to eat doesn't happen from one specific challenge, and it truly takes a team approach to support a child's ability to progress with this skill.

Last night's evening was amazing, learning and sharing information with a group of professionals across fields & backgrounds, including:

Dentistry, Dental Hygienist, Speech Pathology, & Occupational Therapy.

Our takeaway: We all 💯 agree:

*the way your child breathes impacts their dental and facial health, growth, function, and development

*a team approach is the best approach

*function and form drives skill, development and growth

Mouth breathing is not okay.
