The syllabus said "be a blank slate." 😭 Your nervous system said absolutely not.

Countertransference shows up uninvited, sits down, orders a snack, and starts making itself very comfortable. And somehow nobody in grad school gave us a full class on THAT.

Welcome to the real curriculum. πŸ‘€

We process all of it in supervision and consultation at LifePath. All clinicans at our practice are in case consultation groups weekly, and we offer supervision to every licensure level. Because in order to do our best work, we need ongoing support. The weird reactions, the cases that follow you home, the moments where you're like... wait, is this about them or about me? Small group, real talk, actual support.

There is a specific kind of exhaustion that doesn't show up anywhere a doctor can measure. It accumulates across a thousand small moments. The mental calculation before you speak in a meeting. The hypervigilance in a room where you're the only one. The way you've learned to read certain silences.

People call it sensitivity. Or anxiety. Or being difficult. But a lot of what gets pathologized in marginalized communities is actually the nervous system doing exactly what it was trained to do after years of navigating spaces that sent very clear signals about belonging.

Minority stress is not a buzzword. It's decades of research pointing to something a lot of people already knew in their bodies before anyone gave it a name.

If this is something you're carrying, we'd love to hear what it's been like. Drop a 🌱 below if this landed.

Most people don't realize how much energy they spend editing themselves just to feel safe in a room.

At LifePath, we've watched clients walk in carrying years of making themselves smaller in family dinners, at work, in therapy offices that made them feel like a case study rather than a whole person.

Therapy is supposed to be the room where that stops.

This Pride month, we're sitting with what it costs to move through a world that asks you to leave parts of yourself at the door. The exhaustion of it. The grief of it. And the quiet, ongoing courage it takes to come home to yourself anyway.

Whole-self welcome. Not as a slogan. As a practice.

Tell us in the comments: what's one space in your life where you've felt truly, fully welcomed as you are?

May can carry a quieter kind of intensity.

The rush of spring settling in.
Calendars filling up.
Pressure to feel motivated, productive, β€œbetter.”

And sometimes… your nervous system hasn’t caught up to the season everyone else seems to be in.

This month can be an invitation to notice that gently.
To check in with the parts of you that still feel tired, uncertain, or overwhelmed.
To make space for what’s unresolved instead of rushing past it.

Healing doesn’t always move in straight lines.
Sometimes growth looks like slowing down enough to hear yourself again.

There is wisdom in honoring your pace.
In allowing both movement and rest to exist together.

We’ll hold space for all of it in our work together.
See you soon.

Wedding season has a way of turning up the volume on everything. The joy, yes. But also the stress, the family dynamics, the conversations you've been putting off, and the patterns that were always there but now have nowhere to hide.

It's not a red flag that things feel harder right now. It's actually pretty normal. Planning a life together stirs things up. Old wounds show up. Communication styles that worked fine before suddenly feel like they're not enough. You start seeing not just the person in front of you but everything they brought with them.

That's not a sign you chose wrong. That's just what intimacy at this level actually asks of you.

Premarital counseling isn't about fixing something broken. It's about getting curious together before life gets louder. Learning how you each fight, shut down, reach for connection, and repair. Building a foundation that can hold the real stuff, not just the highlight reel.

The couples who do this work aren't the ones in crisis. They're the ones who take their relationship seriously enough to tend to it before it needs rescuing.

Is premarital counseling something you've thought about? We'd love to hear where you're at.

Anxiety is really good at one thing. Preparing you for the worst. It runs the scenarios, finds the gaps, anticipates the pain before it arrives. And honestly, for a long time that probably kept you safe.

But somewhere along the way the alarm stopped turning off. And now your brain is running disaster simulations for things that haven't happened yet and maybe never will.

The best case scenario gets no airtime. Not because it's less possible, but because your nervous system learned that hope feels dangerous. That if you let yourself want something and it doesn't happen, the drop is too far.

So you stay low. Expect less. Brace for impact.

Here's the gentle experiment we sometimes offer in the therapy room. Not toxic positivity. Not "just think happy thoughts." Just this: what if you let the best case scenario take up as much space in your mind as the worst one? Even for a moment. Even just to see what it feels like in your body.

That's not naive. That's actually really brave when your nervous system has been wired for threat for a long time.

What does your best case scenario look like right now? We're curious.

This weekend a lot of people will be gathering, grilling, and marking the unofficial start of summer. And underneath that, some people will be quietly carrying losses that never got a moment of acknowledgment.

Grief is not one size fits all. It doesn't only show up after death. It doesn't only count if other people witnessed it. It doesn't expire just because time has passed or because the world decided it wasn't big enough to stop for.

Some of the heaviest grief is the kind nobody sees. The losses that don't have funerals or group chats or casseroles at the door. The ones you've been holding alone, wondering if you're allowed to still feel it this much.

You are. And it counts.

If something is sitting heavy with you this weekend, we see you. All of it is welcome here.

What's a loss you wish more people understood? You don't have to share if it doesn't feel right, but we're holding space either way.

The part of you that snaps when you're overwhelmed. The one that says yes when every part of you means no. The one that holds it together all day and completely falls apart at night.

Those parts aren't problems to fix. They make a lot of sense when you know their story.

Therapy is where you get to finally ask what they've been trying to say.

Which part of you has been the loudest lately? No wrong answers.

Finding a therapist who actually gets it, without you having to explain, defend, or water yourself down, changes everything about the therapy experience.

Too many LGBTQIA+ folks have sat in sessions that felt more like advocacy work than actual healing. Spending precious time on the basics instead of getting to the real stuff. Leaving with less energy than they came in with.

That's not therapy. That's labor.

You deserve a space where your identity is already understood and affirmed before you even walk in. Where the work can actually begin from the first session. Where all of you is genuinely welcome, not just the parts that are easy to hold.

If you've been putting off therapy because you're not sure it's safe, we want you to know that it can be. And it should be.

Who in your life needs to see this today? Send it to them.

05/18/2026

Spring has this reputation for being all light and fresh starts. And sometimes it is. But if you slow down long enough, spring is also mud. Bare branches. The uncomfortable stretch between what was and what's coming.

That in-between place is real. And a lot of people are living in it right now.

Maybe something ended recently and you're still grieving it even though it needed to go. Maybe you're in the middle of a shift that doesn't have a name yet. Maybe you're growing in ways that feel more like unraveling than becoming.

That's not you doing it wrong. That's just what change actually feels like from the inside.

The most important transitions rarely announce themselves as growth in the moment. They just feel like loss, uncertainty, or that low hum of something not quite fitting anymore.

If something in your life is loosening right now, let it. It might be making room.

What are you in the middle of this season? We're genuinely curious.
