WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU USE SAFE HAVEN?

You may be wondering:

“What happens if I bring my baby to a Safe Haven?”

Here's what you need to know:

❤️ Your baby is taken to safety.

🩺 Your baby receives medical care.

👶 Your baby enters the child welfare/adoption process.

🤍 You may remain anonymous if you choose and the requirements of the law are met.

The Illinois Safe Haven Law was created to give a desperate parent a safe alternative to abandoning a newborn in an unsafe place.

Knowing what happens can make that first step feel less frightening.

Help is here.

NO SHAME. NO BLAME. NO NAMES.

Sometimes people make decisions under circumstances they never imagined facing.

Illinois' Safe Haven Law provides a safe and legal option for a parent who cannot care for an unharmed newborn.

Under the law, a parent may choose to remain anonymous when safely relinquishing the baby.

There is no need to explain your situation on social media.
There is no need to face the crisis alone.
There is a safe place for your baby.

No Shame. No Blame. No Names.

If you know someone who may need this information, quietly share this post with them.

DID YOU KNOW?

In Illinois, if you are unable to care for your newborn, you have a safe option.

An unharmed baby 30 days old or younger can be handed directly to staff at:

🏥 A hospital
🚑 An emergency medical facility
🚒 A fire station
🚔 A police station
🎓 A qualifying campus police facility

The baby will receive immediate medical attention and be placed into a safe environment.

Knowing the law could mean the difference between tragedy and a second chance.

Share this information. Someone you know may need it someday.

What if you knew there was a safe, legal way to protect your newborn—even if you felt like you had nowhere else to turn?

Illinois has a Safe Haven Law.

An unharmed newborn 30 days old or younger can be safely relinquished to staff at a hospital, emergency medical facility, police station or fire station.

No shame. No blame. No names.

The law exists because sometimes people face an unimaginable crisis. Knowing there is a safe option can save a life.

Tell someone. Share this post. You might save a life.

Zoe and her family visited Aurora Fire Station 13, and they saw that they didn't have a proper Safe Haven sign. Zoe gave her speech and gave them a sign. They hung it right away.

Does your fire station have a sign? If not, let us know! We will send them information on how to order one.

They DO have one? Let us know, and we will send them a certificate of appreciation.

Be sure to check out your fire and police stations. If you do not see a sign, how will a mother in crisis see one?
