❤️ Sharing Because We Care: Health Knows No Age

At 28, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts’ diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and blood clots in both lungs reminds us that serious health conditions can affect young, physically active people. His experience highlights why the C.H.L.M.S Medi-Helpz Foundation champions patient education at every age.

A 2015 peer-reviewed study in the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis surveyed adults across nine countries. Only 44% were aware of DVT and 54% of pulmonary embolism. Younger adults generally had lower awareness.

What is a blood clot?

A blood clot is a gel-like clump that forms when blood thickens. Clotting helps stop bleeding after an injury, but a clot inside a deep vein can block blood flow. If part breaks off and travels to the lungs, it can cause a potentially life-threatening pulmonary embolism.

Know when to seek care:

• Unexplained swelling, pain, tenderness, warmth, or discoloration in a leg or arm needs prompt medical evaluation.
• Report new or worsening symptoms—even if an earlier evaluation was reassuring.
• Sudden difficulty breathing, chest pain, coughing up blood, or fainting requires emergency care. Call 911.

Some clots cause no noticeable symptoms, so understanding your personal risk matters, too.

This is why our Foundation’s work is important. We help patients and caregivers understand health information, recognize changes, ask informed questions, and communicate concerns to their care team. Whether you are 28 or 78, you deserve the knowledge and confidence to participate in your care.

💚 As Eagles fans, we send Jalen love and wishes for strength, healing, and a full recovery.

Health knows no age—and patient education should begin long before a health crisis.

📣 Our Official Press Release Is Here!

Medi-Helpz LLC and the C.H.L.M.S. Medi-Helpz Foundation are introducing the International Patient Education Calendar—a global resource for empowered patients and caregivers.

📰 Read the announcement:
https://www.einpresswire.com/article/950255573/introducing-the-international-patient-education-calendar-a-global-resource-for-empowered-patients-and-caregivers

Here’s the story behind this initiative.

We are all born into this world as patients.

Before we learn our names, before we understand our families, before we take our first steps—we begin life as pediatric patients held by parents, nurses, and caregivers who guide our earliest moments. And as we grow, we don’t stop being patients; we simply evolve. We become teens navigating mental and physical health, adults learning to advocate for our bodies, and seniors managing the wisdom and complexity of aging.

Across every stage of life, one truth remains: Educated patients become empowered and engaged patients. And empowered patients create a win/win situation for families, providers, communities, and health systems.

Patient education isn’t just information—it helps people take action. It strengthens our understanding of conditions and diagnoses and helps us navigate our healthcare experiences. When patients understand what to do, why it matters, and how to advocate for themselves, they are better equipped to make informed decisions, communicate their needs, and participate in their care.

That’s the heart of our vision for Patient Education Day calendar . A calendar that recognizes patients as a universal collaboration. Every child learning to use an asthma inhaler, every parent decoding discharge instructions, every teen learning about mental health, every woman navigating reproductive care, every man learning about preventive screenings, every senior managing medications all of us benefit when patient education is clear, accessible, and culturally grounded.

But here’s the part of the story that changed everything.

When we submitted Patient Education Day to National Day Calendar, our proposal was rejected. When inquiring about why is was rejected the response was that while that it may have been because too many other observances sounded similar. For us, that response highlighted a gap: We wanted a dedicated space that centered patient education itself —the learning that connects conditions, diagnoses, and lived experiences.

That closed door opened a bigger one.

Instead of stopping with the rejection, we built the International Patient Education Calendar—a global, unified framework that honors pediatric patients, parents, teens, women, men, and seniors. A calendar that recognizes patient education as a lifelong journey. A calendar that says empowered patients are essential.

Launching electronically January 1, 2027, the calendar will bring together patient education observances, caregiver resources, patient stories, and community learning opportunities.

The International Patient Education Calendar grew from a need we saw—and our commitment to help meet it.

As we recognize through October 24, it’s important to remember that kidney disease is often an invisible illness. Many people living with kidney disease don’t experience noticeable symptoms until the condition has progressed, meaning millions may not even know they have it.

In Michigan alone, more than one million people are living with kidney disease. By learning more, getting tested, and supporting those affected, we can help bring this invisible condition into the light.

Take one minute to learn your risk for kidney disease at MinuteForYourKidneys.org.

🎀💗 WALKING WITH PURPOSE. WALKING IN LOVE. WALKING IN MEMORY. 💗🎀

Yesterday, C.H.L.M.S. Medi-Helpz Foundation stood alongside the breast cancer awareness community in a walk that represented so much more than miles. We walked to promote awareness, education, early detection, support, and hope.

This walk holds a deeply personal place in our hearts as we participated in loving memory of my big sis, Penny Lewis. 💕🕊️

Penny, your life, although you are no longer with us physically, your legacy lives on in every step we take, every conversation we start, and every effort we make to educate and empower others.

At C.H.L.M.S. Medi-Helpz Foundation, our mission is rooted in patient education, advocacy, and empowering communities to take an active role in their health. Breast cancer awareness reminds us that knowledge matters, early detection matters, support matters—and every life matters.

🎀 We walk for those who are fighting.
🎀 We remember those we have lost.
🎀 We celebrate and support survivors.
🎀 We stand with families and caregivers.
🎀 We educate because awareness can save lives.

This was more than a walk. It was a commitment to love, advocacy, health education, and community.

In loving memory of Penny Lewis, we will continue to walk, speak up, speak out, and keep the conversation going. Your legacy will always be part of every step we take. 💗

🙏🏽 FAITH, BUSINESS & PURPOSE: THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX! 💼✨

Let’s get one thing straight: NONPROFITS ARE BUSINESSES, TOO!

God gives us the vision, but we must be willing to put in the work, use wisdom, and be good stewards of the mission He has entrusted to us. 🙌🏽

Too many nonprofits spend valuable time waiting on grants to move their mission forward. Grants can be a blessing, but they should not be your only plan!

💡 Think outside the box! What knowledge, skills, services, or resources can you turn into a revenue-generating product that supports your mission?

Build a business model that creates income, expands your reach, and allows you to serve your community with greater sustainability.

Remember, faith without works is dead! (James 2:17)

Don’t just pray for the doors to open. Be prepared to walk through them with a plan, a strategy, and a willingness to do things differently.

Your mission deserves more than a waiting list for grant funding. Build the revenue. Fund the vision. Grow the mission! 🙏🏽💰

**Job Opportunities, Training Programs, and Community Resources**

**This is a long post, but if you need a job or other resources—or know someone who does—please read it in its entirety. Each section offers different information that could help you, your family, or someone in your community.**

C.H.L.M.S Medi-Helpz Foundation serves as a health resource communicator, connecting people with information that supports their health, well-being, and everyday needs. That includes employment, workforce development, family support, and community resources.

Today, we’re sharing several opportunities for Illinois residents and anyone considering a move to Illinois.

**1. Illinois Department of Transportation — Employment Opportunities**

Information shared with us indicated that more than 700 job opportunities were posted as of October 16. Review the information below and confirm current openings and application requirements directly with the department.

[View the shared job information on LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/posts/sandra-washingtonxyz_young-people-dont-need-more-criticismthey-activity-7517019157360541696-SA9a)

**Please do not pay anyone for job information that is available for free.**

**2. State of Illinois — Jobs and Career Pathways**

The State of Illinois also offers employment opportunities, including career pathway programs for veterans and people with disabilities.

Explore available positions and program eligibility at:
https://work.illinois.gov

Again, access this information directly without paying someone to provide it.

**3. Foster Parenting — Support a Young Person**

**6. Illinois Department of Public Health — Open Positions and Application Tips**

IDPH also has employment opportunities. During a conversation with one of its HR recruiters, I received these helpful tips:

• **Provide a complete work history.** The recruiter encouraged applicants to include all previous jobs, even if that makes the résumé longer than one page.

• **Complete every application section.** Do not write “see résumé” in place of the requested employment details. Incomplete responses can affect your consideration.

• **Ask about benefits.** The recruiter described benefits beginning on day one, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, and financial wellness resources. Confirm the benefits and effective dates for the specific position.

• **Be prepared for a lengthy process.** The recruiter advised that hearing back after applying may take **four to six months**.

The recruiter also mentioned that when setting job alerts set them for weekly not monthly alerts. Failure to do so means that you have lost out in hearing about all available jobs.

Looking for a job with the State of Illinois and not sure which one to apply for then call or email a Career Counselor at [email protected] or call 217-782-7100

Search for IDPH positions at:
https://work.illinois.gov

**Please share this post with someone who could use these resources.** Confirm current openings, event details, eligibility, and program terms directly with each organization.
