“When we see or read stories about physicians leaving clinical practice to pursue alternative careers, leaving behind years of training, mountains of student loans and countless patient connections, we are devastated that so many are losing their passion for this calling.

And even more troubling, we worry about what this means for our patients, already navigating a complex healthcare system, and how those of us remaining in a depleted workforce can continue to meet their needs.”

PNHP president Dr. Diljeet Singh set the record straight on physician moral injury, which is often misdiagnosed as “burnout.”

She told the On Becoming a Healer podcast that, for currently practicing physicians, “you might be having a lot of thoughts and feelings that are at odds with the system in which you work—and you might think you’re crazy or you might think you just have to quit being a doctor.

We’re saying, “No, you have to speak out. Come be an advocate with us, and we can change the system” that is harming our patients.
