𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗫𝗟𝗩. 🥂 ...still believing my best chapters are yet to come! As early as the third or fourth grade, I knew I wanted to be in the history books. I didn’t always know what I would become, but I knew I wanted to make a positive difference.

At 24, I celebrated earning my first doctorate and becoming a pharmacist.

At 30, I questioned whether I had accomplished enough. My dreams reached far beyond where life had taken me, and for a moment, I let life’s distractions convince me I was behind.

By 35, I had earned my second doctorate, founded EnShanté Beauty, embraced marriage and was preparing for chapters that would soon include motherhood, heartbreak, healing, and the incredible blessing of welcoming my son. I learned that life isn’t measured only by accomplishments, but by the people we love and the lessons we learn.

In the years leading up to 40, many of the dreams I had carried for years began to unfold. I was entrusted with leading a century-old institution of higher learning, elected President of a national professional association, and given the privilege of helping lead and rebuild one of the professions I love and respect. Leadership taught me that it’s about service, stewardship, and leaving something stronger than you found it.

At 40, I embraced getting older with confidence and gratitude. Then, only months later, I lost my father. His passing became one of the deepest heartbreaks of my life. Losing a parent is a chapter for which nothing truly prepares you. Grief changes you, but it can also deepen your gratitude, strengthen your purpose and remind you that every tomorrow is a gift. In the years that followed, I found my voice as an author, publishing The Type 4 Experience and Start Smart: Your Business Blueprint. I also founded Blue Stone Capital Group to help entrepreneurs build, scale, strengthen their businesses, and position themselves to access capital and opportunity.

Maybe that’s why 45 feels different. I’ve realized that purpose was never waiting for me at the finish line. It has been walking beside me all along. I wasn’t dreaming about fame. I was dreaming about making a difference. At 45, every birthday, every sunrise and every opportunity to serve feels like a gift. I’m healthy. I’m grateful. I’m still walking confidently in my heels. Still dreaming. Still building. Still learning. Still becoming. Life doesn’t have to look perfect to be fulfilling. I’m living proof of that. So here’s to another year of purpose. Another year of growth. Another year of serving. Another year of loving. Another year of making a difference.

𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵.🇺🇸❤️🔱🖤
This year feels different. Across the country, I’m seeing more Black Americans intentionally seeking out, supporting, and investing in Black American-owned businesses. For me, that’s about more than making a purchase... it’s about strengthening our communities, expanding opportunity, and helping build generational wealth through entrepreneurship.

For too long, our dollars have helped build businesses and communities outside our own. This moment reminds us that where we choose to spend our money is also a reflection of what we choose to build.

That’s one of the reasons Blue Stone Capital Group means so much to me. Our mission is simple: help entrepreneurs build stronger businesses, position themselves for growth and access the capital and opportunities they deserve. When our businesses thrive, our communities become stronger.

As we celebrate National Black Business Month, I encourage everyone to discover, support and champion the Black American-owned businesses serving our neighborhoods every day. Every purchase, every referral and every opportunity matters. Let’s continue building businesses, creating opportunity and leaving a legacy.

𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗫. Happy Birthday, Elliot! 🎉❤️
The last 10 years have flown by and being the mother to this amazing young boy has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. He’s my only surviving child of five pregnancies, and every day with him has been a gift. Motherhood has brought me a joy unlike anything I could have imagined, and watching him grow into the thoughtful, kind and incredible young man he is becoming fills my heart with gratitude.

Happy 10th Birthday, my son. May this new chapter be filled with joy, adventure, wisdom and countless blessings. I love you more than words can express. I can’t wait to see all God has in store for you. I love you always. 💙

𝗦𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲!
Seven years ago today, on June 30, 2019, I was entrusted with the privilege of serving as President of the National College of Naprapathic Medicine... now NCNM University. When I accepted this responsibility, I did not inherit a finished institution. I inherited a responsibility, a vision and the opportunity to help rebuild, reimagine and reposition the oldest institution in .

At the time, many believed the vision was too ambitious. Some questioned whether we could survive. Others believed becoming a university was impossible. There were even those who suggested I hand the responsibility to someone else.

Instead, we kept building.

𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗜 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗴𝗼’𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗽 and see more than an office. I see the result of perseverance, faith, sacrifice and countless hours of work shared by people who believed in the mission. During these seven years, we have transformed from a single-program institution into a university with multiple active academic programs, renewed opportunities for students and a vision that continues to expand.

𝗡𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻. It happened because Board members, faculty, staff, volunteers, students, graduates, alumni, donors, supporters, colleagues, family, and friends believed that our institution deserved another chapter.

𝗧𝗼 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂. Your encouragement, your service, your patience, your prayers, your ideas and your belief have carried this institution through moments that many thought it would never overcome.

This journey has also shaped me personally. Many of the lessons I’ve learned rebuilding this institution have become part of the foundation for my work with Blue Stone Capital Group and my book, Start Smart: Your Business Blueprint. The principles of resilience, strategic planning, perseverance and building sustainable systems were not learned from theory—they were lived.

As we celebrate seven years, I know our work is far from finished.

Two years ago, on June 19, 2024, I intentionally released The on . As a celebration of freedom, heritage and cultural identity, Juneteenth felt like the perfect day to honor a journey rooted in , Black beauty and Black expression. What began as a personal natural hair journey became my first published work, evolving into a book, a brand and a movement rooted in education, self-love, authenticity and cultural pride.

Type 4 hair has often been misunderstood, overlooked and even stigmatized. Through this book, I wanted to celebrate the beauty, versatility, strength and uniqueness of our natural hair while encouraging others to embrace it with confidence and pride. I wanted to create a s**ce where our stories, experiences, and beauty could be recognized, honored and celebrated. Through this work, I have had the opportunity to share my experiences, lessons and passion with others while helping to inspire conversations around natural hair, identity and self-acceptance. The journey also helped shape the growth of EnShanté Hair and the broader EnShanté Beauty & Health family.

As I celebrate this two-year milestone, I remain grateful for every reader, supporter, customer and member of the Type 4 community who has been part of this journey. Your encouragement, feedback and support have helped transform an idea into something far greater than I ever imagined. Today, I celebrate not only a book anniversary, but also the continued evolution of a vision dedicated to helping people through continued growth, continued healing and continued celebration of the Type 4 experience.

Here’s to embracing our roots (pun intended), honoring our stories and celebrating the beauty that has always been ours.
