AI chatbots can provide patients with quick answers about genetic testing, but those answers may not always align with an individual’s needs.

A new study in the Journal of Genetic Counseling compared answers to common genetic testing questions between five AI chatbots. Most responses were accurate, yet readability remained above the average U.S. reading level. The findings reinforce the role of genetic counselors in helping patients understand results in the context of their own health and family history.
