For a century, many have found Jung’s ideas uniquely helpful in living a life of depth and breadth. Analytical Psychology, initially developed by C. Jung, focuses on the complexity of the human psyche and the life-long development of the self in dialogue with the personal and collective aspects of the unconscious. The theory and practice of Analytical Psychology makes use of symbolic material from

the unconscious to deepen the individual’s sense of purpose and meaning as well as addresses the function of religious and spiritual experience. This therapeutic model focuses on the intersubjective and mutually transformative nature of the analytic relationship.

Psychology of the Odyssey

Content Warning: Episode contains discussion of an age-old conspiratorial belief that a secret society is carrying out ritualized child abuse in order to extract a fabled life giving elixir.

At the 2025 International Association of Analytical Psychology conference in Zurich, Robert Carriger and Claire Kohne got the opportunity to talk to conference presenter Jungian analyst Vlado Šolc about his application of Jungian theory to the understanding of conspiracies and cults. Dr. Šolc draws from Greek mythology and the legend of Odysseus' seven year captivity on the island of Ogygia under the spell of the nymph Calypso to explain the phenomena of dark religion and cults. In mythology Calypso is the personification of concealment - or covering - from which the Greek word apokálypsis - apocalypse - is derived which means "uncovering" or "revelation."

This three-hour workshop offers an introduction to core Jungian concepts related to complexes, symbols, and the structure of the psyche as they are encountered in Jungian analysis and psychotherapy. Participants will explore how complexes develop and express themselves through emotional reactions, relational patterns, defenses, symptoms, dreams, and symbolic material. The workshop will also introduce foundational Jungian approaches to understanding and engaging symbolic material within the analytic process, including amplification, reflective inquiry, and elements of active imagination.

On this day in 1961, Carl Jung passed away.

Celebrating one of the biggest minds in psychotherapy, and founder of the school of analytical psychology, we acknowledge Carl's momentous contributions to the field by highlighting Ann Casement's highly readable volume, 'Jung: An Introduction', and her in-depth exploration of Jung’s notion of shadow in 'Integrating Shadow'.
