Last December, I spent 20 minutes looking for my glasses. I asked the lil and my hubby if they had seen them. They looked me eyeball to eyeball and asked if I had checked the bathroom, the game room, the kitchen. Meanwhile my glasses were on my head! Not beside me. Not under a stack of papers. Not in the car. On. My. Head. π€¦πΎββοΈπ€£(Yea, I live with some bucketheads who will play in my face!)
And let's not even discuss the number of times I've gone downstairs only to stand there wondering, "Now why did I come down here?" Then I walk back upstairs and suddenly remember. By then, I've gotten in all my steps for the day.
All that to say, I guess I have officially reached the age where people invite me to speak at AARP . . . about brain wellness.π§ πAnd as it turns out, I actually have stories to contribute! Ouch!
I'm excited and honored (I think) to announce that I will be the Keynote Speaker for Arkansas AARP Brain Health & Wellness Day for African American & Black Communities next Thursday (June 18th)!
The good news? Most occasional forgetfulness is a normal part of being human. The even better news? There are things we can do to support brain health, cognitive function, emotional wellness, and healthy aging.
Past Surgeon General David Satcher said "Without mental health, there is no health." And he was RIGHT! Next Thursday, I'll be sharing practical strategies to help people take better care of the most important organ they own: their brain.
Thank you to AARP Arkansas for the opportunity to be part of this important conversation. There are some others that I enjoy hearing on panels and breakouts like Dr. Tiffany Haynes, the great, the General herself Dr. Annette Slater, Carey Dobbins. They have a sister circle, something special for men and barber shop talk. In other words, it's going to be GOOD! And I'm going to be THERE!
And if you see me searching for my glasses, please check my head first, and then pinch my hubby and lil' because they likely have me on a wild goose chase looking for them. ππ§
At this stage of life, I may occasionally forget why I walked into a room, but I have NOT forgotten my passion for helping people live healthier, fuller lives. Hope to see you there.
Check the flyer and comments below for how to register. I would LOVE to see you there!
