I complained to the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce, and then the alderman's office, the city Water Dept, and NPL Contractors and I finally alerted Block Club Chicago. At least this builds some awareness of what is happening as we continue to try and conduct business. As for the port-a-potty that showed up on the sidewalk in front of my business after I complained to the contractor, NPL, about this disruption, they moved it from in front of my business to one door down. Now it's just their heavy equipment parked directly in front of my business. Oh YAY. See less

Second Act Cancer Recovery Boutique Announces CLCF Certification Awarded to Pattie Cagney Sheehan, CMF/CLCF and Stevie Evans, CMF/CLCF

April 2026

A Certified Lymphedema Compression Fitter is a professional whose competence in fitting compression garments and/or wraps is evaluated and verified by the Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC), upon completing the appropriate BOC-approved training, and successfully completing the certification examination.

Already holding certification as Certified Mastectomy Fitters, Sheehan and Evans had previously completed the necessary training to measure, fit, dispense, and adjust compression garments and/or wraps for individuals with lymphatic conditions, including lymphedema.

Drawing on their foundational knowledge of the lymphatic system, they completed the additional training required and successfully passed the BOC Certified Lymphedema Compression Fitter (CLCF) exam confirming their suitability to assess medical conditions affecting the lymphatic system through the appropriate application of compression therapy pursuant to a physician’s or clinician’s order.

The CLCF is the only certified credential in the industry focusing exclusively and specifically on the skills to properly fit the range of lymphedema compression garments. With passage of the Lymphedema Treatment Act and Medicare coverage for lymphedema treatment garments now in place, the demand for these skills is increasing. The CLCF addresses the growing patient need to receive the care they need to live full and productive lives.

At present Sheehan and Evans are two of only three CLCFs in the entire Chicagoland metro area.

Someone I know is being treated for a blood cancer. She is on chemo and has received a stem cell transplant. She is doing better but has a constant metallic taste in her mouth. Does anyone have experience with this? Suggestions are appreciated.

Today I received a hand written note, in the mail, from a client. She so elegantly expressed our mission . . . accomplished. Here's what she wrote:

I should have written this seven years ago. Of all the people I dealt with before or after the surgery, you were the kindest and most helpful. With you I wasn't a patient or a tumor or test results. You made me feel I was myself - whole and a bit stronger. I am grateful to you and I always will be. My thanks!

And so, this is why we do, what we do, the way we do it; to the consternation of my staff sometimes. And on those tough days, this type of encouragement helps me remember this is more than “just any ole job” and that's saying something from a 73 year old who spent a 30-year career in advertising and sometimes wonders why I'm not retired. This is why we push for excellence. It’s not about the money (although a bit more monetary success would be nice 😊). It’s about the difference we make in people’s lives by caring and going the extra mile. Thank you to all the mastectomy fitters around the country who share this mission.
