Did you know that symptoms can persist even after a blood clot has been treated?
After a deep vein thrombosis (DVT), some patients develop post-thrombotic syndrome, a long-term condition caused by damage to the veins following a blood clot. Common symptoms include:
✔️ leg heaviness or fatigue;
✔️ swelling, especially at the end of the day;
✔️ aching or cramping;
✔️ itching or tingling;
✔️ skin discoloration around the ankle;
✔️ symptoms that improve when the leg is elevated and worsen after prolonged standing or walking.
While these symptoms may seem mild at first, they should not be ignored. Early evaluation can improve comfort, and reduce the risk of complications. If you have had a DVT and are still experiencing leg discomfort, swelling, or skin changes, don't assume it’s just part of the recovery process.
