In honor of , we celebrate 450 inspiring Team Lurie Children’s runners who crossed the Bank of America Chicago Marathon finish line yesterday.

Every mile represented hope for children and their families, bringing brighter days to the patients who need it most.

October is Spina Bifida Awareness Month, and we're honoring the patients, families, clinicians and supporters who have helped shape more than 50 years of care at Lurie Children's Spina Bifida Center.

Since 1975, the center has provided multidisciplinary, family-centered care that supports patients from childhood through adulthood. Bringing together experts across specialties, the team partners with families through every milestone, challenge and triumph.

This month, we're sharing stories that reflect the compassionate care, innovative research and lasting relationships that make this community so special.

The 70th annual Gold Coast Fashion Show raised more than $1.86M for The Chicago Institute for Fetal Health at Lurie Children’s last month. The event not only celebrated an incredible milestone but also raised money to help advance groundbreaking research and lifesaving fetal care.

This year was especially meaningful as we welcomed Mila, the very first patient to undergo fetal surgery to repair spina bifida at the institute.

At just 22 weeks pregnant, Kylie and Luke learned their daughter had hydrocephalus. Two weeks later, Kylie gave birth, and Mila spent the next four months in the neonatal intensive care unit before going home. Today, at 8 years old, she is thriving. She loves to swim, color, and go to school.

Their story is a powerful reminder of what these advances in fetal care can mean for a child’s future. Thank you to everyone who supported this year’s show! Congratulations to the Children's Service Board!

Rain couldn't dampen the spirit of the 8th Annual CCU BBQ! Last month, heart heroes, families and staff came together for a joyful day of connection, celebration and reunion.

The Lurie Children’s Regenstein Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) is designed to provide continuity at every step of a patient's journey. Patients stay in the same private room from admission through discharge and are cared for by a consistent team throughout their stay. Those lasting relationships are what makes the annual CCU BBQ such a meaningful tradition. Each year, CCU patients and their families are invited for a day of food, music and fun while reconnecting with one another and the care teams who were part of their journey.

It was a wonderful day filled with love and support for our incredible heart patients, families and staff. Huge thanks to CPKC and Genuine Real Estate Corp. for their continued support and for sponsoring this incredible event!

This Foto Friday, we're celebrating the patients, families and team members who make up our sickle cell community at Lurie Children's 💙

Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects nearly 100,000 Americans and can cause disruptive pain crises and serious complications among multiple organs. Early diagnosis, preventative care and ongoing treatment is especially important for people living with the condition.

Lurie Children's comprehensive Sickle Cell Disease program is designed to support patients' needs in every way - medical treatment and transfusions, mental health and education support, as well as helping them access emerging therapies like gene therapy and stem cell transplantation.

Our sickle cell community makes Lurie Children's what it is, and we're proud to celebrate them this month and every month!
