Some of the best health habits aren’t complicated, they’re the simple things we can consistently incorporate into our everyday lives, and they may even be enjoyable.

In this episode of “The Longevity Lounge,” we discuss a practice that has been part of many cultures for generations: taking a walk after a meal.

This small habit can have a meaningful impact on how you feel after eating by supporting digestion, helping your body process the fuel you’ve given it, and promoting overall well-being.

This is just a glimpse into the kind of guidance we provide our patients as we help them build healthier, more sustainable lifestyles. Our approach is about understanding how your body works and making the most of the way you fuel, move, and energize yourself every day.

One of my favorite parts of recording this episode with Meredith Villarreal | Nurse Practitioner | Cosmetic Injector was hearing the way she reframes conversations around health. Her perspective is thoughtful, compassionate, and rooted in what truly helps patients, not just what they’ve always been told.

For too long, we’ve let a single number define progress.
But real health is far more complex than that.

When we look beyond the scale, we can start asking better questions and focusing on the metrics that truly matter.

Because our goal isn’t just weight loss, it’s helping people build healthier, longer lives.

Weight is just one data point.

When I’m helping someone improve their metabolic health, I’m interested in what’s happening beneath the surface. Are we preserving muscle? Reducing body fat? Making changes that actually support long-term health?

That’s why tools like the InBody scan are so valuable, they help us make better decisions based on real data, not just a number on the scale which should never really be the case.

It’s one of the many ways we personalize care at Innovative Vitality | Longevity Medicine, Menopause, Weight Loss instead of relying on guesswork.

One of the things I was most looking forward to when starting this podcast was bringing together different medical perspectives, and that means not everyone agreeing on everything.

In Episode 3 of “The Longevity Lounge” Meredith Villarreal | Nurse Practitioner | Cosmetic Injector and I dive into metabolic health, and you’ll quickly realize we don’t always approach it the same way.

That’s intentional.

Medicine isn’t one-size-fits-all, and neither are the conversations that move it forward. Meredith brings a thoughtful perspective backed by her experience, I bring mine, and somewhere in the middle is a conversation I think every patient (and healthcare provider) can learn from.

You don’t have to choose sides. You just have to stay curious.

If you’ve ever wondered why two providers can look at the same goal and recommend different paths, this episode is for you.

Too many people are giving advice they’ve never had to follow themselves.

I don’t believe that’s how trust is built.

Before I ever guided a patient through optimizing their health, I went through the process myself. I learned what works, what doesn’t, and where people tend to get stuck, not from a textbook, but from experience.

That perspective changes everything. It allows me to anticipate challenges, simplify the process, and help patients avoid the mistakes I already made.

Because the best guidance doesn’t just come from knowledge. It comes from living it.

One of the most important parts of healthcare is making sure patients feel heard.

Throughout my career, I’ve seen how many people walk into a healthcare setting already expecting judgment. They’ve had experiences where their concerns were minimized, their symptoms were brushed aside, or they were made to feel uncomfortable asking questions.

It takes trust to create a truly meaningful patient-provider relationship. That’s why creating a judgment-free environment isn’t just something we say, it’s something we work to build with every patient interaction.

One thing I’ve learned throughout my own health journey is that lasting change rarely happens overnight.

When I first started focusing more on fitness, I didn’t try to completely overhaul my routine. I started small, building consistency one habit at a time. Over time, those small commitments became something I genuinely looked forward to, and the progress followed.

The biggest changes weren’t just physical, they were the confidence and mindset that came from realizing I was capable of more than I thought.

Whether it’s strength training, nutrition, sleep, or any other health goal, the most sustainable habits are the ones you can actually build into your life. You can read more about this approach by commenting SUBSTACK below.

I can study women’s health all day long. I can read the research, review the data, and learn everything we know about the science behind the changes women experience throughout their lives.

But some of the most honest and meaningful insights come from the people who are actually living it.
That’s one of the reasons I loved having .fnp on the podcast. As a provider and someone who has personally experienced the changes that come with perimenopause, Meredith brings a perspective that goes beyond the textbook.

For many women, the strategies that once worked for their health and fitness can suddenly feel like they’ve stopped working. It can be confusing and frustrating and understanding that experience is a critical part of providing better care.

One thing that never sat right with me in traditional healthcare was how long patients often have to wait between follow-up appointments.

Yes, you leave an appointment with a plan, but what happens if you don’t feel right two weeks later? Or if your symptoms change? Too often, the answer is to wait until your next appointment or try to fit into an already packed schedule.

Healthcare shouldn’t work that way.
I’ve always believed patients deserve a relationship with their provider, not just an appointment on the calendar.

When care is built on communication and trust, we can make adjustments when they matter most, not months later.

That’s one of the biggest reasons .fnp and I were drawn to longevity medicine.

We’re in a really important moment for women’s health, and it’s certainly been a long time coming.

In episode 2 of my podcast we talked about something that comes up far too often. so many women are seeking support for perimenopause and menopause symptoms, but are still being told there’s “nothing to do” or simply not being offered options like hormone replacement therapy.

But there’s also a growing space in longevity medicine where current evidence is already being thoughtfully applied to help women feel and function better today.

What stood out in this conversation is how long women’s health has been under-addressed, and how many are only now being taken seriously as this topic finally gets the attention it deserves.
