Paced breathing is a powerful part of the TIPP skill in DBT, designed to help you downregulate intense emotions and regain control. Follow along as you count your breaths and lengthen your exhale—an evidence-based way to soothe your body and mind in times of stress.

What happened in Highland Park impacts everyone. If you or someone you know was there on Monday, or even if you are feeling the impact of witnessing from afar yet another senseless tragedy, trauma treatment may be needed. Please consider this resource. The Greater Chicago Trauma Recovery Network has a network of trained trauma and EMDR therapists offering 5 free sessions. Their website is www.GreaterChicagotrn.org.

Many police and fire departments are arranging EAP services for their members. Your place of employment many offer such services too. If you or someone you know is not comfortable using their EAP or someone needs additional services beyond EAP, the Greater Chicago Trauma Recovery Network has a network of trained trauma and EMDR therapists offering 5 free sessions. Their website is www.GreaterChicagotrn.org.

No one needs to go through this alone.

Extra thank you to my colleague Kris Maynard, LCSW for spreading the word.

Therapy is here. Please reach out if you are a first responder or directly affected by yesterdays's tragic shooting in Highland Park.

We can begin again ❤️

Art:
No matter what has passed, we can begin again. We can only begin now, where we are, and it is this now that becomes the seed for all that lies ahead. In our relationships, in our community, on this earth, we may not live to see all the changes we work for—we are the planters of seeds.
Mindfulness and compassion are genuinely undertaken one step at a time, one person, one moment.
