University of Chicago Medicine Pharmacy Residency Our training program is designed to develop knowledge and encourage clinical leadership.

The University of Chicago Medicine Pharmacy Residency Programs develop residents into autonomous clinicians with the skills needed to lead patient-specific programs in a variety of practice settings. The University of Chicago Medicine is a progressive organization, offering pharmacy residents the opportunity to work in an academic environment that fosters innovation and advancement in health care.

Residents will improve their skills and build confidence, making an undeniable difference in the residents’ ability to provide excellent patient care throughout their professional career. Rotations are available in a wide variety of practice areas under the support and guidance of preceptors who excel in their respective fields. Residents also participate in a teaching certification program and gain experience in the fundamentals of research through completion of a project. The goals of our training program are to provide opportunities for learning through projects and presentations, foster the ability to share knowledge through preceptorship, and achieve an understanding of hospital pharmacy practice through staffing responsibilities and administrative experiences. We currently offer a PGY1 program as well as PGY2 programs in cardiology, critical care, emergency medicine, internal medicine, oncology, pediatrics, pharmacogenomics, pharmacy informatics, solid organ transplant, and specialty pharmacy administration; in addition to a 2 year PGY1/PGY2/MS HSPAL program. The Rockefeller – Teamwork Award – Ben Cochran (PGY2 Oncology)
The resident who consistently goes the extra step to help everyone out whenever possible while maintaining a positive attitude. They frequently volunteer time to maintain and advance the residency program. The hallmark of the award is a selfless attitude and a devotion to peers.

The Legacy – Profession Impact Award – Alyssia Calhoun (PGY2 Critical Care)
The resident who demonstrates leadership in the profession of pharmacy, develops as a progressive practitioner and leader at national levels, demonstrates excellence in aspects of performance embodied by this residency, and is most likely have the greatest impact on the profession.

The Phoenix – Outstanding Resident Award - Neha Sathe (PGY1 Community-Based)
This award recognizes a resident that maintains high standards of professionalism, promotes pharmacy education, and serves as a role model for other residents and students. This award is voted on by the preceptors.

Residency Advancement Award – Michelle Weisman (RC for the PGY1 Community-Based Program)
This award recognizes a preceptor who embodies the mission and vision of the residency program and exemplifies all the characteristics of a model preceptor, practitioner, mentor, and leader.

Preceptor of the Year Award - Joe Kramer (Critical Care Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator and Burn ICU Preceptor)
This award is given to the preceptor who has served as a consistent instructor, modeling, coach, and facilitator for the residents. This person has demonstrated continued interaction and involvement with the residency and freely serves as an educator, adviser, mentor, and role model to all residents.

Kevin Colgan Clinical Excellence Award - Patrick Costello (Alumni PGY1 2016 and PGY2 Critical Care 2017; current PGY2 Critical Care RPD and MICU preceptor)
This award recognizes an alumnus with a lifelong career devoted to clinical excellence, healthcare stewardship, and inspiring leadership. It speaks to exceptional commitment to the practice of pharmacy and pharmacy education.
