Nature sounds like rainfall, ocean waves, or a gentle breeze can all create a sense of calm, which can be a helpful tool for managing tinnitus, sound sensitivity, stress, or anxiety.

Sound therapy can take many forms, and finding the right sounds can help your brain feel more comfortable with the sounds around you.

Nearly 29 million adults in the U.S. could benefit from hearing aids.

Hearing aids can help you follow conversations, reduce the effort it takes to understand speech, and stay aware of important sounds around you. They can also help you feel more confident and connected in the moments that matter.

If hearing has become more difficult, you’re not alone and there may be options that can help.

Hearing plays an important role in how we stay engaged with the world around us. A hearing screening is a simple way to check in on your hearing health and establish a baseline for the future.

If you’re 50 or older, consider adding a hearing screening to your regular healthcare routine. And if you’ve noticed changes in your hearing, an audiologist can help you understand what’s going on and what steps might be helpful.

Whether through the ear, a hearing aid, or a cochlear implant, it’s ultimately the brain that makes sense of what we hear.

That connection between hearing and the brain is at the heart of what we do, and it’s a big part of why we chose the name Hearing Brain Audiology.

Our approach goes beyond simply testing how well you hear. We look at the whole person and how hearing, listening, and processing fit into everyday life. That perspective is woven into everything we do, from evaluation through treatment and therapy. Better hearing isn't just about the ears, it's about helping your brain make sense of the world around you.

Misophonia, meaning "hatred of sound," is when specific sounds trigger strong emotional reactions, such as anger, anxiety, or disgust.

Unlike hyperacusis, which is related to the volume or intensity of sound, misophonia is triggered by particular noises, often those associated with human actions, such as chewing, breathing, or tapping. Over time, specific sounds may become associated with negative experiences, reinforcing the emotional reaction.

If you or a loved one are struggling with misophonia, it's important to seek help from healthcare professionals who can guide you toward effective treatment options. With the right support and help from an audiologist, individuals can learn to cope with and even reduce their sensitivity to sounds.

Sometimes following instructions isn’t just about attention, it can be about how the brain processes what we hear. Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) and ADHD can have some similar symptoms, including difficulty staying focused, following directions, or understanding information.

A key difference is where and when those difficulties happen. Someone with CAPD may have a particularly hard time understanding or staying focused when there’s a lot of background noise, even when they can focus well in a quiet environment.

If you or your child has been diagnosed with ADHD or a learning disability but continues to struggle with listening, understanding, or following conversations—especially in noisy environments—it may be worth talking with an audiologist about whether a CAPD evaluation could provide some additional answers.
