Let me un-f*** your brain, as a therapist who has ADHD too 🧠

I used to think burnout was laziness catching up with me. I used to think needing medication meant I’d failed. I used to think looking fine meant I was fine.

None of that was true. It was an undiagnosed brain doing its best with tools that were never built for it.

šŸ‘‡ Which one hit hardest? Tell me below.

Unhinged ADHD woman core. If you know, you know. šŸ§ šŸ˜‚

Talking to yourself out loud. Buying the same candle for the third time. Crying at a commercial and going numb during a real crisis.

None of it means something is wrong with you. It means your brain runs differently, and once you see it, you can stop fighting it.

šŸ‘‡ Which slide is most you? Drop the number.

Late diagnosed ADHD means spending years thinking you were just bad at being a person 🧠

I didn’t know my brain was undiagnosed ADHD. I thought I was too sensitive, not working hard enough, too much, and not enough all at once.

Now I know my dysregulation was my nervous system talking. My frozen task list wasn’t laziness. My overfunctioning wasn’t a personality trait, it was a coping mechanism with no name yet.

šŸ’› What’s something you wish you’d known before your diagnosis? Drop it belowšŸ‘‡

High functioning ADHD means the self-care advice you have been handed your whole life was designed for a completely different nervous system.

Slow down.

Do less.

Rest more.

And you try it.

And it feels nice in the moment.

And then you get home and the spiral picks right back up exactly where it left off.

Because nothing actually shifted.

the bath feels nice, but your brain will be running a to-do list the entire time.

the massage is lovely, but the manic productivity spiral will be waiting when you get home.

Here is what actually matters for high functioning ADHD brains.

Your nervous system does not regulate through less stimulation.

It regulates through BETTER stimulation.

Movement that requires your full attention.

Something new and novel your brain has not done before.

An experience that pulls you completely into your body and out of your head.

A conversation and learning about something that is intellectually stimulating.

That is what actually changes something.

Not because you are too much or too extra or too difficult to care for.

But because your brain is wired differently and it has been telling you what it needs for years.

This is not a luxury.

This is your nervous system finally getting what it actually asked for.

Save this for the next time someone tells you to just take a bath and relax šŸ‘‡
