Always learning. Always questioning. Always looking for more ways to help my patients.

I spent the past couple of days at Biohackers World Chicago exploring some of the latest ideas and technologies in longevity, recovery, metabolic health, regenerative medicine, peptides, light therapy and more.

One thing I’m continually reminded of is that innovation and evidence don’t always move at the same speed.

There are some incredibly exciting therapies emerging in the health and wellness space—but there’s also plenty of hype. As a practitioner, I think part of my responsibility is to stay curious while also asking the harder questions: Does it actually work? What does the research show? Is it safe? And will it meaningfully improve outcomes for my patients?

I had the opportunity to experience some of these technologies firsthand, talk directly with companies and other practitioners, attend some fascinating lectures, and come home with plenty of things I want to investigate further.

My goal isn’t to offer every new therapy that comes along. It’s to identify the ones that genuinely complement acupuncture, functional medicine and the individualized care we already provide.

Lots to think about after a very interesting weekend. Stay tuned for some exciting potential new additions to the clinic.

Unlocking the Power of Polyphenols

Ever wonder why we tell you to "eat the rainbow"? The answer lies in polyphenols.

Polyphenols are plant-based micronutrients that act as nature's ultimate medicine cabinet. In holistic health, we view food as medicine. Polyphenols are the heavy hitters for longevity and cellular protection.
What they do for your body:

* Reduce Inflammation: They neutralize the stressors causing chronic inflammation.
* Support Gut Health: They act as prebiotics to feed your good gut bacteria.
* Protect the Brain: They help improve memory, focus, and cognitive health.
* Boost Heart Health: They support healthy circulation and blood pressure.

How to get your daily dose:

* Deeply colored berries like blueberries and blackberries.
* High-quality green tea, matcha, or black coffee.
* Dark chocolate with 70% or higher cocoa content.
* Extra virgin olive oil, red onions, and pecans.

True wellness starts from the inside out. We use acupuncture as well as dietary and lifestyle advice to help.people achieve their health goals.

Why Acupuncture is Better For You Than a Quick Dopamine Hit

Many of the things we turn to when we're stressed—social media, shopping, alcohol, sugar—trigger dopamine, the brain's reward chemical. Dopamine can feel good in the moment, but the effect is often temporary, leaving us wanting more.

Acupuncture works differently.

Research suggests acupuncture can help increase the release of not just dopamine, but also serotonin, a neurotransmitter associated with feelings of calm, emotional balance, and overall well-being. Serotonin helps regulate mood, sleep, digestion, and the body's stress response.

While dopamine says, "I want more," serotonin says, "I'm content."

This is one reason many patients report feeling deeply relaxed after acupuncture, sleeping better, and feeling less overwhelmed by everyday stress. Rather than masking symptoms, acupuncture helps support your nervous system's natural ability to return to balance.

Less fight-or-flight. More rest-and-repair.

Not all sauerkraut is created equal.

Many people buy sauerkraut thinking they're getting a rich source of probiotics, but most commercially produced sauerkraut is very different from the traditional homemade version.

Homemade sauerkraut is created through natural fermentation, allowing beneficial bacteria to thrive and produce compounds that support digestion, gut health, immune function, and a healthy inflammatory response.

Many store-bought varieties, however, are pasteurized or contain preservatives designed to extend shelf life. While these products may still contain some nutrients and fiber, the live beneficial bacteria are often greatly reduced or eliminated.

When shopping for sauerkraut, look for: ✔ Refrigerated products ✔ "Raw" or "naturally fermented" on the label ✔ No vinegar or preservatives added ✔ Live and active cultures

Or better yet, try making your own at home with just cabbage, salt, and time.

Your gut microbiome thrives on living, fermented foods—and sometimes the simplest traditional foods are still the best.

Nourishing my mom from the inside out. Here are a few dishes I made for my 77 year old mom.

One of the simplest ways to support healthy aging is by feeding the gut microbiome. The trillions of bacteria living in our digestive tract influence everything from digestion and nutrient absorption to inflammation, immunity, energy, and even mood.

These meals are packed with some of my favorite gut-loving foods:

• Kimchi – provides beneficial probiotics that help support a healthy balance of gut bacteria.

• Seaweed – rich in prebiotic fibers and minerals that nourish beneficial microbes while supporting overall metabolic health.

• Avocado – loaded with fiber and anti-inflammatory monounsaturated fats that help promote the production of short-chain fatty acids like butyrate, a key nutrient for gut lining health.

• Leafy greens and sprouts – provide fiber, antioxidants, and polyphenols that help reduce inflammation and feed beneficial bacteria.

• High-quality protein (salmon, tuna, eggs) – supports muscle maintenance, immune function, and tissue repair, which becomes increasingly important as we age.

• Healthy fats – help stabilize blood sugar, reduce inflammation, and improve absorption of fat-soluble vitamins.

A healthy gut doesn't just mean fewer digestive complaints. It can also support healthier joints, better metabolic health, stronger immunity, improved cognition, and lower levels of chronic inflammation.

Food truly is information for our cells. Every meal is an opportunity to nourish the microbiome and create a healthier internal environment.

What's one gut-friendly food you try to include every week?

Cosmetic acupuncture combined with LED light therapy offers a natural approach to facial rejuvenation. Fine acupuncture needles help stimulate circulation and collagen production, improving skin tone, softening fine lines, and supporting the skin’s natural repair processes.

LED light therapy enhances these effects by calming inflammation and promoting cellular regeneration, leaving skin brighter, smoother, and more radiant.
