It is absolutely my favorite part about the community we’ve built here. I am so grateful for everyone’s participation in today.
I’m writing this caption at the dining room table in our home in Chicago as fireworks echo in alleyways. Feelings of celebration and terror juxtaposed against each other, like an out of tune chord.
I am hopefully for a day that we truly will celebrate and honor our interconnection, not just because of a holiday I made up, but as proved by our actions as a society; as a collective to truly care for one another. But I am equally fearful and angry because of the very punctuated question mark in our history about what liberty, freedom and justice for all is coming to mean, and what shadows that lens will cast on our future.
I believe we are at a pivotal moment for our species (and every species on this planet). Our actions, everyday people’s actions, can tip the scale in favor for a future that is safe and kind to all.
And so my ask is this:
WE MUST FIGHT.
Fight with relentless love in the beautiful way you do. Fight for me. Fight for yourself. Fight for those who do not look like you. Fight for those who do not think like you. Fight for the stranger across the globe. Fight for the generation to come. Fight for the generations past. F I G H T.
But do so with relentless love.
No one wins when our connection is weakened. When the divide becomes wider, our ability to empathize with each other becomes more bleak.
Our connection is crucial to our survival. Because of our connection, your hurt is my hurt and your joy is my joy. Our connection helps ensure behaviors that align with prioritizing the long-term health and well-being for all.
When I say I love you, I mean it with all my heart. I will fight for you, with you, with love.
xoxo,
Michelle
