What makes According To Sykes different? It begins with how we understand healing.

We recognize that mental health is shaped not only by what happens within us, but also by our relationships, identities, communities, histories, and lived experiences.

We support children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families as they navigate trauma, anxiety, grief, stress, relationship challenges, life transitions, and personal growth.

According To Sykes is currently accepting new clients and professional referrals. If you are seeking support—or know someone who may benefit from care—we would be honored to connect.

Every person carries a story, and sometimes healing begins when there is space to tell it.

In this video, .r.hope discusses how Narrative Therapy can help people talk through their experiences, better understand the stories they have carried, and separate themselves from the problems or circumstances that may have shaped how they see themselves.

As a trained Grief Counselor and grief specialist, David understands that loss and major life transitions do not follow a simple timeline. His role is not to rush the process, but to help clients reflect, make meaning, and feel supported as they move through it.

At According To Sykes, our clinicians believe therapy is a collaborative process. We do not expect clients to have everything figured out before they begin. We meet people where they are, listen carefully, and walk alongside them as they explore what healing and growth may look like in their own lives.

You do not have to navigate your story alone.

Being a therapist is about far more than providing advice or solutions.

It is the privilege of sitting with people in moments of uncertainty, grief, growth, joy, and transformation. It is about creating a space where individuals feel seen, heard, and understood, often when they have spent much of their lives carrying those experiences alone.

In this video, David reflects on what he loves most about being a therapist: serving as a steward of people’s stories and walking alongside them as they navigate life’s challenges and possibilities.

Healing often begins in connection. When we feel safe enough to share our stories, we create opportunities for greater understanding, self-compassion, and growth.

June is both Pride Month and Men’s Mental Health Month.

One thing these observances have in common is the reminder that no one should have to struggle alone.

For generations, many men have been taught to suppress emotions, avoid vulnerability, and “handle it themselves.” Similarly, many LGBTQ+ individuals have faced stigma, discrimination, or pressure to hide parts of who they are in order to feel accepted.

The result is often the same: isolation.

At According To Sykes, we believe that connection, community, and support are essential to mental well-being. Seeking help is not a sign of weakness. Opening up is not a failure. Being yourself is not something that requires permission.

This month, we invite you to reflect:

💬 What is one message about mental health, masculinity, or identity that you wish more people understood?

Share your thoughts below. Your perspective may be exactly what someone else needs to hear.

And if you know someone who could benefit from this conversation, please share this post with your network.

One of the biggest misconceptions about therapy is that you need to be in crisis before seeking support.

In reality, therapy can be a space for growth, self-discovery, healing, connection, and learning new ways to navigate life’s challenges.

As we recognize both Pride Month and Men’s Mental Health Month, it’s important to challenge the messages many people receive about vulnerability. Whether it’s the expectation that men should “tough it out” or the pressure LGBTQ+ individuals may feel to navigate their experiences alone, these beliefs can create barriers to seeking help.

Therapy isn’t about weakness. It’s about having the courage to better understand yourself and invest in your well-being.

Everyone deserves support. Everyone deserves belonging. Everyone deserves the opportunity to heal.

If you’ve been considering therapy, we invite you to schedule a consultation through the link in our bio. And if this message resonates with you, please share it with your network as we continue raising awareness during Men’s Mental Health Month.
