June is Aphasia Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about communication disorders that affect how people speak, understand language, read, or write. One form of aphasia is Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA), a neurological condition that gradually impacts communication abilities over time.
While aphasia can make communication more difficult, it does not affect intelligence. Many people living with aphasia know exactly what they want to say, but may have trouble expressing it.
At the HAARC Center, we support research that help individuals and families affected by conditions like PPA stay connected and engaged. One of those programs is Communication Bridge-3 (CB3), a research study designed to support communication and quality of life for people living with PPA and their communication partners through personalized, virtual intervention and resources.
